What guard could/should we realistically target?

With the news that Payton is going to be out till New Years, and our already thin guard rotation, who would y’all like to target?

With the Wizards being open to blowing it up Wall/Beal along with their supporting cast could be targets

Kemba is on a really good contract but is expiring and the hornets would more than likely make any team getting him take on one of their big contracts. And we would more than likely be outbid for Kemba.

Or would we be better off going for someone like Trey Burke or George Hill?

Also what would you be willing to give up?

See if Magic would part with DJ relatively cheaply.

Haven’t seen that name yet. Would the magic start selling right now as the 7th seed? I mean I think everyone else knows they’re not good but do the magic know

I would pass on any of these big names with albatross contracts, especially considering what they'd cost.

Does John Wall or Bradley Beal move the needle at all if you're getting rid of Niko/Moore/whatever?

Beal adds offense, which we don't need, and adds not much else. Same with Kemba.

I'd prioritize perimeter defense over anything else since we can't keep anyone out of the paint.

I agree that giving up both Moore and Niko for one of those would probably hurt us. Out of the wizards I’m more interested in Oubre, Porter, Satoransky.

I will disagree that we don’t need offense, particularly 3P offense.

I would prefer to not take on a contract as bloated as Wall's, unless:

A) Gayle is willing to pay a big LT bill

And

B) AD guarantees he will re-sign

The downside is, even if AD guarantees he will re-sign, if it doesnt work out he can still say screw it and leave anyway, then we are stuck

Also for Kemba he would absolutely help us. Would allow Jrue to play off ball where he is undeniably better, and also adds a dynamic scorer to our team. On top of that he is on a team friendly contract

That being said I don’t see any way we would be able to trade for him without stripping our team or getting outbid.

I don’t see AD guaranteeing he re-signs and even if he did, like you said, he can just change his mind. It’s basically the equivalent of a verbal commit from a football recruit, it doesn’t mean anything till they sign.

Another angle to that could be this: Does adding someone of Wall’s talent that will be here longer than a rental convince AD to stay?

If you mean right now?

Trey Burke
T.J. McConnell
Tyus Jones
Isaiah Canaan
Ryan Arcidiacono
Ish Smith
Jeremy Lin
Frank Mason

I think those are more of the realistic variety that can be gotten for relatively "cheap" right now if we don't want to wait for another month or so in a bigger trade.

Yeah that’s definitely a more realistic list. Those teams that are floating around .500 need to go in the tank so they’re more inclined to sell.

On that list, without really checking how they’re doing this season, I’d like to go for Burke, Jones, Lin, or McConnell.

Do you have any favorites from that?

Solo and and a protected 1st for Quinn Cook and whatever else would make salaries match?

Doubt GS would go for it, but I wouldn't mind a guy besides Moore and Niko who shoots over 40% from outside.

He's not a legit PG or SG, but he's a nice combo guard shooting .450 from outside for his career.

I know, that isn't happening. If we get another guard though it needs to be one who can shoot it.

I'm not trading a firat for a guy that was just on our team last year and we let him walk. He's a product of the system in Golden State. He's nothing special, definitely not worth a first.

c'mon man. If you can't be remotely realistic, then you need to keep from posting retarded ideas like this.

JR Smith's contract has some arcane but legit value as it's grandfathered into the old CBA. Therefore it can be traded for his full $15.6M value and then waived for his $3.8M guarantee next summer. This makes it somewhat of an asset so buyout is unlikely right now.

I was wondering about JR. I can't stand him, and really wouldn't want him on the team, but if you could trade him straight up for Solo, and he still be eligible for multi player trades immediately like the Ajinca/Wesley trade, i'd consider it. Not sure though if he'd be harder to include as a filler than Solo, so might not be worth it.

I feel like there are a lot of trades we are going to be able to make at the deadline for average players, it's more of which one are we going to make, and are we going to get another star or have to make that move for the average guy.
The fact that Solo doesn't touch the floor anymore tells me they aren't risking him getting hurt b/c he will without a doubt be involved in a trade.
