If he does indeed sign a deal with Kansas, it’s kansas that is getting the raw end of the deal. Instead of splitting his salary with LSU, they have to pay the whole sum.
This makes no sense, but thank you for playing.

More than likely, LSU knew his job search was a farce, so they just ended it amicably
Doubtful. Pretty easy to satisfy a good faith standard under a contract, and the word is that Les approached LSU.

Roger that. I was just shooting from the hip

“ could be 100% wrong”
You are correct.

At Oklahoma State he was a .500 average coach.
Miles didn't set the world on fire while he was at Oklahoma State, but he did have 3 winning seasons in 4 years and finished his career there with a winning percentage of .571, after they only had one winning season from 1989 to 2001.
And that was during a time when the Big 12 was a pretty tough conference. And he had to face Texas and Oklahoma every year when each team finished the year ranked in the top ten except for the 2003 season where Texas finished that year at #12.
During Miles time at Oklahoma State, Texas had a combined record of 43-8 and Oklahoma had a combined record of 47-7.
I doubt anyone thinks Miles will have Kansas (if he gets that job) competing for championships, but I think he can post the same kind of record, if not better, than he did at Oklahoma State.

Can he improve their win total from recent years? Undoubtedly.
Isn't that all it takes for a new HC to be considered a resounding success around here??
Hell, you don't even need to improve the teams win total. You can win 9 games while playing the weakest schedule the programs faced in years, and it will considered a resounding success here as long as you're "one of us."

“good faith”
No agent worth a damn is going to allow his guy to sign a contract that demands he except any HC position offered to him without some wiggle room.
It just goes to show what kind of guy miles is and how unappreciative some can be.

Yea, no shite. Great contract joe.

i dont understand why he would rather have 1.5 mil now instead of 6.5 mil by 2023
...because if he can make 6.5 by 2023 somewhere else, he also gets the 1.5.

Not burning bridges with LSU is a great investment for Les. He will always be close to and around the program. He may want to come back in some capacity some day. I'm sure he has invested wisely and is loaded for life. This is a political and economic move although I do think Miles is a great human being and have always liked him even when his coaching decisions made me furious.

Les just pulled a slick one. LSU owed him $6.5 million, to be reduced by any salary he would make if he gets another HC job. He settled for a one time payment of $1.5 million. He’s about to be named HC at Kansas for $6.5 million. He snookered Alleva out of $1.5 million. Poor old dumb Les. Alleva never saw it coming

We should send Kansas a fruit cake for the Holidays and make sure we tell them thank you!

He will own La in recruiting at some schools. Les is was and always be able to close a recruiting deal all the way back to his days in locking up kids for Colorado.

Totally agree, don't know of any other fired coaches in division 1 who would give up millions like Mile's did.Whatever his reasoning was, I apploud him for this. That was a gift to LSU & just shows that Miles is an honorable person.

That's money towards a real OC.... thanks Les!!
If this money that's freed up turns out to be the funds needed to buy a new offensive coordinator then we'll all be able to finally say that Les did what we always wanted him to do.
Modernize the offense

Seems like the only loser in this deal is Kansas. They would have gotten Miles at a steep discount.
Posted on 11/15/18 at 11:02 pm to rt3
This is a clear indication Miles has the Kansas job. If so, he just suckered LSU and in particular Aleva into paying him an extra 1.5 Mill. If Miles does get the job, you will find out how much he truly loves LSU. Ale a just got played !!
