I love my cat.

He plays fetch just like a dog, but is low-maintenance—unlike a dog.
He is loveable...on his terms. The shedding is the worst, but my dog would shed too.

I miss my pup (had to be put down—cancer). Swore after that hell we’d never have another.

Famous last words.

You ever have a cat that wasn't already fully grown? Doesnt seem so.

they love you if you deserve it instead of just because youre alive

Anyone who wants to make an effort to get a pet to like them has severe emotional problems or no friends, combined with way too much time on their hands.

Cats are OK to have around, but they are shite compared to dogs.

Cats are good pets if you want something low maintenance but still pettable. IMHO a dog is way better, unless it's one of those POS small breed dogs, I hate them fricking things.

And as mentioned earlier in thread, if you have a barn cats are a must. I have 3 barns and there are probably at any given time 20 cats and kittens in each one. They aren't pets though, my dogs don't even go near the barns. The cats there are mean. But I don't have a mice or snake problem in my barns either.

My theory is that most people with a strong dislike of cats likely never grew up with a pet cat. If you are an animal person in general it's befuddling to be virulently anti-cat. There is definitely a bigger personality variance amongst cats than there is with dogs though, I'll admit. By nature some cats are pretty damn antisocial and cats tend to be the ones that dictate when they are interested in showing affection. If you're used to a dog constantly fawning over you and always coming at your beck and call you might be disappointed that that's not the typical nature of a cat's personality.

Personally I love both. A good cat is awesome but they are going to be far more independent minded than a dog.

They are low maintenance, they aren't as dumb as a damn brick and require 24/7 attention, don't keep me up all night barking, take up very little space, and they don't slobber all over me and everything I own. Self-reliant machines that serve multiple purposes. I could leave for 2 weeks and a cat would be just fine. I'm a cat guy every day of the week, and look down with disdain upon the owners of mere simple helpless dogs.

ETA - they shite outside AND cover it up.

I'm a fan of both.

If I'm having a dog though, it has to be a bigger dog like a lab or a golden retriever. I don't like yappy dogs.

Cats are great if you're not into constant interaction. Plus they do a great job of cheap pest control.

Cats are ok if kept outside. Come to think of it, same goes for dogs.

More cerebral people tend to like cats.

Simple minded people only like dogs and hate cats

I like dogs, but a good cat is a better pet, IMO.

You can kick a dog every morning and every evening he is happy to see you. Be a dick to a cat and he will scratch your eyes out.

I didn't want them, but i have 2 Bengal cats. They've grown on me. They don't stink, they don't shed, they keep each other entertained, and they will murder any insect or rodent that enters my home. The male is a ham and likes to cuddle up on everyone, the girl is skittish and hates everyone.

Still like my dog better

I don't have one. Maybe I do. I don't know where my wife keeps all the shoes she comes up with. Maybe it's hidden or some shite.

I'm still not sure how preferring a superior animal equates with having a shoe closet anyway, but carry on.

Good post.

These threads are always the same now. The people that were hesitant about cats love them after they have one for awhile.

The others still sound like white trash with inadequate male reproductive organs
