That is something I think about every time Bama lands a big recruit over us from La. All the marbles are getting put in the NFL basket and if they do not make it, they will never have that nice job here in La so readily available as if they had gone to LSU.

Professional football is an average career of what, five years, more or less? Sure, you can make a lot of money in that time, but there’s an entire lifetime after that. These are intelligent people doing the best for themselves. Refreshing.

Sounds like he should be a 4 year player then if it’s really about the degree and life after ball

Really is a great read. What surprises me is Emery's dad saying John "didn't know they has so many RBs." I just thought the kid would have known the depth chart before committing....

Insider? How do we know they were insiders. Maybe they were wannbes or Trolls.

Yes, I too am struggling with whom to believe. You have random, anonymous people that could be UGA/Bama trolls telling us his dad hated LSU, and you have the man speaking for himself in his own words.
Decisions, decisions...

Yeah, and most players need income after the NFL. Athletes are unique from other professions in that their earnings are typically front loaded. They make the most they ever will the first 5-10 years out of college.
I know I wouldn't have managed that money well and saved it all for later. It's good to see a parent speaking wisdom to his child and helping him keep things in perspective rather than getting caught up in the game like many do.

Okay, but the article makes it pretty clear the real reason he decommitted from UGA was because he didn't feel he'd get enough snaps.
quote:
"To know that probably all them guys will be back, that can do a lot to a kid expecting to come in and play immediately and be a factor, and this and that," Emery Sr. said. "I'm not saying that John is looking for the bulk of the snaps, but they're having trouble giving the ball to two, three other guys on their bench unless it's a blowout. And then they called John 'the plug.' That's what kind of did it for me, but I didn't share that with my son. My son had to see it for himself."
"So, once he started and realized, 'hold on Dad.' He called me and said 'I didn't realize that Georgia had so many running backs.' I said 'Yeah dude, all of them are probably coming back.'

Sounds to me like some 'wannabe insiders' took past events and created their own narrative.

Daddy Moses could learn some great life lessons from Daddy Emery! Emery’s Dad sounds like a first class dude.

I wish more parents would think like Emery Sr. I hope Jr gets a degree.

Refreshing that this did not boil down to a 'bidness' decision.

I assume it means a player they plug in as needed.
As in, not an every down kind of guy.
At least not anytime soon.
Whether it's true or not, that's how Emery and his dad read the situation. Perception is everything in life.
