Talks about when considering a school, its about life after football. Interesting that not once in the interview did he mention the school as preparing the kid for NFL or having a better chance to go to NFL. His reasons for having his son go to LSU had to do with life after football and giving back...very refresing to read.

"You have a great kid, with great accolades, you contribute to your community by bringing them great football, and you go home, and guess what? You're taken care of for the rest of your life. You know? After you graduate with your degree, and somebody'll go 'You're John Emery! You went to Destrehan and LSU! Of course I've got a job for him!' You know? That's life after football. That's what I try to explain to a lot of people, there's life after this. A lot of coaches will call me and tell me, 'I can see your son rushing for this, rushing for that.' I said, 'No, I can see my son walking away with a great degree from your institution and getting a great job in a great city. That's what the ultimate picture was. How can he contribute back to his community and to himself and help himself out in the long run."

Really is a great read. What surprises me is Emery's dad saying John "didn't know they has so many RBs." I just thought the kid would have known the depth chart before committing....

And when looking at it....LSU is the no brainer when comparing that on paper.

It's kind of ironic because everyone here kept saying that he would be buried at GA. It's kind of insightful into the mind of a kid. You have to give them time to recognize the obvious sometimes.

I'm glad that he saw it, can't wait to see him play!

Good read. It's really true relative to the real life after football. If you wore the purple and gold and also were successful in the classroom, it's a distinct advantage to that student athlete when persuing the real carreer. Can't say the same for the defectors who may find out that when they return home, this may not be the case.

Were they really insiders? Apparently they did not know as much as they thought they did. Sounds to me like some 'wannabe insiders' took past events and created their own narrative.

Contrast that with the parental situation with Landon Collins and Gerald Willis. Little bit different.

If UGA had backs leaving.....LSU would not be in his heart. Glad to have him though.

While I'm NOT saying TD was the source of Dad's comments, let the negative nancy posters realize that it very well COULD be. This place, and the
SE-Cesspool, is not a largely ignored Tidefans type lol-site...
For better or worse, what you post here has potential ripple effects.

Listened to the interview. Dad is a great guy! Wonderful attitude...

To all the "O" HATERS listen to what he said about being w/the team 'before' his son arrived. "Coach O had ME READY TO PLAY!"

nice read with the following objective realistic questions;

how many and what % of college football players who leave after 3 years to the NFL graduate from college?
how many and what % of college football players who play in the NFL for a few years return to their hometown after their playing days are over?

Emery may be the exception but I believe the chances of him graduating from LSU, returning to his hometown and landing a normal job after his NFL days are over are slim, I believe LSU is the right choice for Emery but for a different reason (playing time)...

Welcome Emery and good luck!

A very small percentage of players make a lifetime's worth of money in the NFL. Even many highly rated players are out of the league by their late 20s. That leaves 30-plus years that they will likely need to work.
