My apologies. I'll try to be more gentle next time.

Go see a good chiropractor first. If that doesn’t fix it, then escalate as previously advised.

I know this pain. It subsided over time but it may take 3-4 months to completely subside. Surgery is an option to get relief from the nerve and vertebrae. Unfortunately, there isn’t a pain pill that works for easing it any. Good luck. I went to the NeuroMedical Center in Baton Rouge.

Long term, for pinched nerves from bulging discs, this was recommended to me by a physical therapist and is the best thing I ever did. I'm functioning fine ans have been for years.

That being said, start with a doctor, but try to avoid surgery if at all possible.

I have a ruptured disc and I just get the ESI (Epidural Steroid Injection) once a year and it helps. My doctor recommends i keep doing this until it no longer works then he will consider surgery.

They will most likely try epidural steroid injections prior to surgery but these require an MRI and the procedure is done under anesthesia so it's about 4-5K all together. They may work but may not, I've had 7-8 of them over 20 years with mixed results.

If you've met your deductible tell your Dr you need to get it done before the end of the year.

Thanks, heading to Destin for Thanksgiving but seriously considering since I have met deductible and plenty of time to recoup before spring

I’ve been through three back surgeries because of issues at L4-L5

Just out of curiosity, why did you have three surgeries if you're first surgery was a microdiscectomy? I am dealing with a herniated disc at L4-5 and am considering options so I am just wondering why you had to have additional procedures.

So you're more knowledgeable about this than a neurosurgeon viewing an MRI? Interesting.

A "pinched nerve" is not what I have. Most bulged discs bulge out to the side and impact the nerves radiating out from your spinal cord, and this is what is commonly called a pinched nerve. My bulge is directly back against the spinal cord itself...and is a whole other animal and much more serious.

shite. My doc thinks I have bulging disc between c4 & c5. Flares up time to time right now is no bueno. I’m putting it off as I can still play golf with no additional discomfort but I’ve already hit deductible for year and golf season is ending.

What did you get as timetable for recovery?

Did you doctor say or show you where it was bulging? Per my post above, it makes a difference. If you have a typical bulge, there are other options like physical therapy, injections, etc. In my case though those won't work.

The disc replacement surgery will be outpatient. I should only miss a couple days of work at most. No collar, no braces, no limitations except nothing heavy above my head for about a month.

Down side? The go in through the front of the neck so I'll have a two inch scar there.
