Ultimate Road Trip

Hey y'all, some friends and I are about finish our time at LSU and have been wanting to do a big road trip before we graduate and go our separate ways. The only thing that we have in mind is to go West. Does anyone have any recommendations or might have gone on a similar trip? We plan on going during winter break. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hit all lower 48
You can Google the route and basically pick it up anywhere.

Two paths I would choose:
Start in Colorado make your way up through Wyoming and Montana back down through Utah and end at the Grand Canyon followed by Vegas
Start in Vegas and go to Grand Canyon, through Utah, Wyoming and end up in Montana.

Yall comfortable driving on ice? If not, this might limit a trip out West.

Hmm, winter break makes it a bit more challenging, assuming that your squad has limited winter driving experience. I wouldn't want to be hauling through the mountains, etc for the first time driving w/snow. (You may feel differently.)
How about the Pacific Coast Highway from San Luis Obispo to San Francisco?

Are you flying somewhere to start the road trip or leaving from home to start the road trip?

I highly recommend a lot of this route, but most of the good parts will be closed during the winter, so nevermind.

This is a really rough outline of my 17’ trip
Don’t go in the winter if you want to go west, I’ve done a few of these trips including a nearly 25,000 miler last summer and 13,000 this summer plus I spent a few weeks on the road while moving out here to Colorado a month ago. If you drop your email I can give you my cell number and we can talk on the phone because I’d have carpel tunnel before I could type out all the info I have for you.

For winter it's hard to beat Big Bend, that would be a great starting point. Then keep south as you go west. Maybe Carlsbad Caverns, Alamagordo, White Sands, Sonoran Desert, Joshua Tree, San Diego, up the coast to San Francisco, Death Valley, Vegas, Zion, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Moki Dugway, Santa Fe, not sure after that. Just a rough idea. Winter is going to make it tough and this keeps you mostly in fairly warm areas. Maybe some more in southern Utah.

My sister did basically the perimeter of the country in college, took a couple months
I went along with some friends for about 3 weeks, from Atlanta, through the West, to TJ, up PCH and flew out of Portland
Good times. I'd never been anywhere out west at that time, so YMMV, but to me the most lasting impressions weren't what I planned. I wanted to go to Mexico and see LA and San Fran. But what I remember most were dive bars and shitty hotels in the middle of nowhere NM, camping on Utah bluffs and along the coast in California and going to some towns I wasn't familiar with (Half Moon Bay/Mavericks, Solvang, etc.).

We did a 17 day one a couple of years ago.
Baton Rouge to:
Santa Fe
Jacob Lake, AZ (Grand Canyon)
The Utah Five NP's
Moab
Durango
RMNP
Steamboat
Flat Tops Wilderness
Vail/Beaver Creek
The others are right. You're best bet is going to be NM, AZ, Utah, and California during winter.
