The group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law.

Check

Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.

Check

Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).

Check

The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel

Check

The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity).

Check

The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society.

Check

The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members' participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group

Check

The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt iin order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion.

Check

Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group.

Check

The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.

Check

Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities.

Check

?Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.

Check

? PThe most loyal members (true believers) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group.

Check

Every single box is checked. It's amazing how the whole social justice movement turned liberals into cultist progressives.

Meditation shouldn't be included in this. It increases awareness and cognitive abilities.

Everything else is spot on.

The endless chanting at the "resistance protests" is what caught my attention.

While one individual trait might not make one a cult member, looking at this list as a whole you can see how they've conditioned their followers to this cult like following.

Their orthodoxy can't be questioned without you being called racist, bigot, xenophobe, homophobe, etc.

How much time it takes for you to come up with this nonsense? Not healthy to fixate on a group like this.

Blindly accepting the candidates they are running for governor in FL and GA indicates the complete lack of critical thinking required to accept membership in a cult. No sane person could accept either.

The true believers on both sides display cultish behavior, whether they are worshipping Obama, Clinton, or Trump. Fortunately, the true believers seem to be less than a quarter of the population. Unfortunately, they are responsible for the vast majority of political discourse, which is why said discourse is in such an awful state.

Typical of prog candidates. We have one running against Don Young in Ak, and you're not allowed to question her publicly without getting shouted down. She literally stands for nothing, but has excited the progs.

I agree, but it's far more systemized in progressive ideology at the present time.

In the early 90's, it was Social Cons. I'd say some Trump supporters fit the bill

However it's systemized in prog circles.

The Shia LaBeouf "he will not divide us" stuff was super culty. Also the guy during the Kavanaugh protests that was chanting things that the group mindlessly and unenthusiastically regurgitated until he chanted that they were going to March to Heitkamp's and someone told him she was on their side

All of these protests are just mindless droning.

Half of Millennials hold a view favorable to socialism, yet only 19% can explain accurately what it means. When given two options, they overwhelmingly choose the free market approach yet have no clue what it means.

The allegiance to the progressive movement is planned and calculated. I've watched liberal friends slowly moving over to progressive ideology and now are incapable of having an intelligent, calm conversation about politics.

She was the only one in the crowd that had a lick of sense. That definitely was a WTF moment by her.

meditation on the heart of Jesus = love and compassion

Did you love your neighbor today?

Meditating on whatever makes meditator become one (like) with object of meditation
