Painful to watch. Frick that lady.

I don’t really like the fired from the job part though. Deserved it, but cell phone cameras are destroying this world and our ability to make mistakes and move on. Now you have to be unrealistically perfect.

Why do wypepol have to go ask black people if they live in an apartment? I don't get it.

ETA: Also, why is it she must tell the people that she makes $125k a year? Or should I say did.

....and she's not hot

What I hate about this shite is it further emboldens the scum of the earth that push the racist angle 24/7 like Talcum X.

She was drunk, I’ve done dumb shite drunk and I’m sure you have too. That doesn’t excuse it and the black ladies she was harassing had every right to call the police, but it shouldn’t follow her for the rest of her life. It’s on the internet, mob justice. She not only lost her job but is now unemployable in all but the lowest skilled jobs. Google search her name, nope next. May feel good but it’s terrible for society as a whole.

Just because you put “ that doesn’t excuse it” doesn’t mean you’re not excusing it. Everyone knows the time they are living in and should understand the consequences for their actions. Saying “I wouldn’t have been in trouble for this before cell phones” should not excuse you from being an a-hole.

Where is the line drawn? Obviously racists rants like this and the resident doctor who berated/assulted the Uber driver in Miami is one extreme. What about a Christian who believes that all Gays and Jews are going to hell? It’s somewhat a slippery slope in regards to what people do when not on the clock (not counting legal charges, just opinions).

No but should being an a-hole destroy your life? I guess the answer is sometimes yes, but in general my answer would always be no it shouldn’t. The internet never forgets and that’s a both wonderful and terrible thing.

I’ve been harassed by thugs of another race at a gas station in the hood for being in the wrong neighborhood. I wasn’t filming though because I was legitimately concerned for my safety instead of trying to get attention and make them go viral. Wonder why that never made the national news.

The baby daddy part cracked me up.

I mean she has a point but took it too far. She’s lucky those girls were civil and didn’t attack her. She was trying to get them to attack her it seemed like.

People show you who they are when drunk.

And her life isn’t ruined. It hasn’t followed her for the rest of her life. You don’t know the impact.

Justine Sacco is employed.

You’re being hyperbolic when you say “destroy her life”. It certainly has altered her life and will cause her to have to work hard to recover her reputation by likely accepting a lower paying job for a long period of time. But it’s not like she can’t work in the service industry to get herself back on her feet. When you have a high paying job you’re held to a high standard and yes that does mean you are responsible for your actions outside of work.

I know this will be unpopular here but there are so many reasons not to drink alcohol and this is a prime example of one. People think getting drunk is innocent fun but there can be severe consequences. I only say this as a very fortunate former drinker who was lucky not to hang a permanent millstone around my neck as a result of drunken hijinx. Its extremely risky behavior, now more than ever.

Should being a racist a-hole outside of work be a reason someone is fired from their livelihood?
