1.) This is a form of projection by the left. The same way leftists see 'racism' everywhere - because they are racist, deep down. Some call that the "soft bigotry of low expectations". For instance, the leftist believes the black in incapable of competing and succeeding on it's own merit, on a level playing field. Therefore a system of affirmative action must be put in place to boost them to "status quo".

2.) Leftists assume everyone else thinks just like they do. It's why they can't understand how the right thinks. Leftists assume that people on the right think the same thoughts that they do... but are too selfish to relinquish control to a governing body that will keep them in check. Leftists believe submission is a form of altruism. They self-identify as "inherently evil" (almost like original sin), but feel their sacrifice allows them to to gain the moral high ground and why they truly believe they are "better than you".

Probably a number of reasons, mostly naive and harmless...

some people lack the drive and resourcefulness to make it in a competitive society. They want the safety net, similar to people staying at home and living off daddy's money.

Some are so idealistic that they don't want others to fail, and want equality for all. Again, a safety net.

The danger arises because there are predatory thugs who desire to dominate and control everyone. To them, "communism" provides a level field that they can manipulate; nobody has anything for their own, so the honest and virtuous in particular will be vulnerable. The strong and independent, who might be able to defend against the predators, have been removed and shackled by the system.

They believe the world has inequality due to things like racism, classism, and inherited wealth. They deny at all plausibility that humans are not built the same even though science and reality say otherwise. Hard work, intelligence, and bravery is what built our free capitalist society. They want to tear it all down because it isn't fair. The reality is that life just isn't fair. The hardest working, highest intellectual people rise to the top in our society, to them that isn't fair.

Just listen to what Ocasio-Cortez says. She basically grew up as a middle class citizen in an upper class suburb and decided that just isn't fair out of jealousy and hatred for the more privileged. The reality is if you took all wealth from all people and forced the system to start all over, the same bloodlines would be wealthy again.

They rage science about the climate, but when it comes to people they cannot stand it. Once you understand that everyone is not created equally (not referring to rights), the world will make a lot more sense for why it is the way it is.

Many if not all take a degree in college such as gender studies or music which provides them with much needed validation that they are in fact smarter then everyone and, most importantly, jobless.
I think it is quite easy to connect the dots from there.

They think they get more "FREE STUFF" until they find out it doesn't elevate them it only enslaves. Then when they wake up it's too freaking late, there is nothing left to give them after production dies.

They do because in their hearts, they are totalitarians. Their lust for power is unparalleled, equaled only by the Sino-Soviet Communists and WW II era Nazis.

This brings up another question.

Has there ever been a communist country that did not execute large portions of its own population?

Stupidity and over-reliance on intellectuals

They believe that traditional American values are evil. Ergo, things that we have usually stood against as a people are things that they gravitate towards.
