damaged "beyond repair" LINK
Over a billion in losses.I also heard the number is closer to 17 on Hugh Hewitt.
Youd think the hangers would've been built a little stronger that close to hurricane territory.

Yikes that's shitty mission capable rates.

You mean Tyndall
The entire base is basically unlivable or usable
MacDill is in Tampa

You’d think they’d fly them out of the way of the hurricane.

You'd think they would not have 12 aircraft incapable of flight... Someone's head will roll over this, as it should...
On a side note, I would not be surprised if there was not a push to close Tyndall...

If only there was some way to have removed them from there ahead of time. If only they had wings and could simply fly away.

Most of the time, parts don't come in on a daily basis. If aircraft was fixed, they would have flown out of there.

frick me, that's going to be expensive.

Easily if more than just a couple of airframes are beyond repair. IDK what replacement costs could possibly be if the lines are shut down.
Probably better use of resources would be tack an order for a couple extra F-35s at the end of that run and push harder for whatever the 6th Gen is going to be - sooner rather than later.

Why didn't they fly them inland. We evacuated helicopters when hurricanes were inbound.

This hilariously awful. Heads should literally roll for this.
ETA: or maybe this is fake, i dunno know.

Or that the idiots in command would have transported them out of the area. Simple flights to Pensacola would suffice for those able to fly.
Incompetence. SJW Rank promotions most likely.

UPDATE: an Air Force official tells me USAF assessed the damage at Tyndall today, including F-22s that weathered the storm. All aircraft are intact and initial indications are “promising.”
OP full of shite, confirmed

I saw this on the news the other day. The base commander will soon be out of a job and out of the Air Force.

We are talking about the United States government. Is anyone really surprised?

Base CO, XO, Ops Officer, Squadron CO, XO, Ops Officer hopefully have been fired and retired. They have contingency plans to bug out to places like Barksdale in LA which is pretty much empty.

One of my favorite things about going to Mexico Beach is watching the F-22s fly in and out of Tyndall. The other is fishing.

At Tyndall, one F-22 could be seen in aerial footage taken the morning after the storm struck. The empennage of the airplane was visible through the missing roof of a hangar where at least five QF-16 target drones and several propeller-driven aircraft had also been sheltered. One of the QF-16s appeared to be resting on top of another, and three more were apparently pushed together by wind or water. The F-22 was surrounded by debris.
A still photograph of another damaged hangar, circulating on the internet, showed an apparently intact F-22 within.
Well, that is not good.

This is God's way of saying frick you to the politicized BRAC process.
Edit Question: And is this the single loss of US Aircraft in an incident since the Vietnam War, that was the line when the Marines loss the Harriers to the raid in Afghanistan?
