Why can’t we use Chase in the slot?

I read where they were moving Kirkland to the slot to try to increase production there. Why not put Chase there at least for this season? He’s big, thick, fast and has great hands. He would be a tough matchup and would get more touches. He needs to get Giles’ touches IMO.

Because “experience”. It’s the same reason they rather start Magee and Campbell over Hines. It makes no sense

it should be Jefferson, Chase and Sullivan. Then Marshall and Anderson. The rest should play sparingly

Moscona interviewed Wendell Davis about Sullivan last week.
He's a hard arse. If you don't do everything right, he's not going to put you out there.
I'm guessing that's it.

So the converse is to have guys who run good routes, but can't get separation or make natuarally athletic plays?
There has to be a balance. Maybe Chase doesn't run precise routes yet. Maybe he doesn't understand the entire offensive philosophy yet, but he's probably the most naturally gifted playmaker LSU has at the WR spot. You're telling me that the "brain trust" can't design 5 plays to get him the ball in space?
Bad coaches have an overall philosophy and try to force everyone to fit it. Good coaches figure out what their guys are best at and change their approach to fit the players.

Receivers are like running backs. They need to get in a rhythm.

I was listening to Spurrier on the radio a few months back and he was talking about a guy he had at UF that was by far the best athlete on the team but the OC kept telling spurrier that the kid wasn’t ready to contribute cuz he didn’t know the plays.
Spurriers response: “then teach him one play and run that. Next week he’ll know two plays, and so on.”
As a coach, sometimes you need to make concessions to get the best players on the field. If a guy doesn’t know everything, teach him something and use him for that.

What I don't follow is ...isn't dropping the ball consistently the same as not doing shite right ?
Giles has 32 yards this year ...
W T F!?

Made a thread abt exactly this and got roasted. Interesting

These young men will not be perfect, but give me a break, natural ability trumps most everything else.
If Sullivan is demanding these college receivers be perfect, he is going to be an unhappy man for his tenure here.

It's a terrible thing to watch so much talent get wasted. What's even worse is watching how many points we leave out there because we don't have playmakers in the game like Chase smh

They should be trying to get the ball to Chase however they can. Slot, punt returns, it doesn't matter. Just get the ball in his hands.

So you find what he does well and integrate that into your system.
What was this whole thing I kept hearing about this offseason, we were going to design plays for the talent we have?? Chase is a talent that needs to be on the field.
Instead some rigid old coach born in the 40s can't find a way to use him and we have Giles out there who looks like he's running with cinderblocks for cleats.

I've been saying that the last couple of weeks, or at least put Jefferson there and put Chase in Jefferson's spot.

I would much rather see Chase run screens and jet sweeps than Giles. I hate that there seems to be so much negativity directed at Giles, but you have to perform at this level. Right now, he's the sore thumb.

Not hating on Giles, he just isn't an SEC caliber player. He's the weakest link on offense like Battle is to the defense. Those are just the facts.

The image of Iverson saying "Practice! We're talkin' 'bout practice" comes to mind. There are practice players and there are guys who ball out when they lace 'em up and the lights come on.
Chase has had three huge, athletic catches thus far in limited time. Giles? Nada. Zip. Zero.
