Apollo crew trained for their mission and had an entire government agency spending billions to land on the moon developing new tech along the way.
Columbus used the current technology of the day and a handful of inmates to make it across the ocean.

I’d say Columbus. Apollo 11 astronauts had the smartest people in the world working behind them and at least and had their trip planned to detail where as Columbus and his men kind of had no clue.

Columbus at least knew of the possibilities of being stranded on land if the ship had issues. Apollo 11 had to deal with the vacuum of space. Just one little crack in the wrong place and everything is gone almost in an instant.

If there was an expedition crew before Columbus that died in a horrific fire aboard a training ship that hadn't even set sail yet, then Columbus would've been as ballsy as the Apollo 11 crew IMO.

Columbus had three ships. Apollo was just a tiny spacecraft carrying a minimum of food, water and oxygen for two men. They also couln't fart into the wind like the crew of the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria.

Columbus. All he knew was he wanted to find India. He had no idea what he would find on the way there. Many people thought he would sail off the edge of the earth.
Apollo 11 knew all kinds of shite about where they were going and had a pretty good idea what they would find when they got to the moon.

Columbus and crew had years of sailing the seas in the type of ships they had...
No one had ever landed on the moon...
Also, given the nature of the advancements of science and technology... The Apollo 11 Crew was more aware of the risks.. as in much lower margin for error in mission success...
