If LSU can find a way to take care of everyone but the tide do you think the committee would put LSU in the top 4 at the end of the year?

if that one loss were to an undefeated bama, yes. Same with a 1 loss UGA (although it would mean we made the SECC)

highly unlikely this year especially with the likelihood of ND going undefeated.
Clemson has no one left on their schedule.
Ohio State looks to win the Big 10 with no losses.
Oklahoma has no stumbling blocks either.
so you've got 4 teams plus the SEC champion and only 4 spots.
i'm not even counting the pac 12 champ who will have one loss.
some years it's possible, but not this one unless some crazy stuff happens.

Should they? Yes. Would they? I’m not so sure. I don’t know if anyone else would ever get the constant mulligan “eye-test” treatment that Nick Saban gets.
Funny thing if that were to happen would be to see how fast little Nicky started screaming that if you don’t win your own division you don’t deserve to go to the national championship.

Lose to FL or GA, win the rest including Bama, go to SEC championship and win the SEC, and we’re good. Lose to Bama and all bets are off.

We should, but it would be iffy since the Irish will get a strong look despite their shitty schedule.

The answer is it depends on what other teams do, when you don’t win your conference you need help. Last year if Wisconsin beats Ohio St then they go to the CFP and not Alabama.
In this scenario the SEC champ is in say Notre Dame goes 12-0, then they are in, if just 2 of the other 4 conference champs finish with 0-1 loss then no LSU wouldn’t be in.

It honestly depends on how that 1 loss looks. 3 or 7 pt loss then I would say so.

can it, sure...doubtful though
Ohio St
Clemson
Oklahoma
Those 3 are near shoe ins...meaning the SEC will get 1 team most likely.
1 of those would have to a) finish with more than one loss or b) have 1 loss and not win their conference.

Possibly, depending on what happens to other contenders. Some of the contenders will take a loss somewhere along the line. In the first 3 years of the CFP, there was only 1 undefeated team each year, and none last year. And the number of 1 loss teams was 5 for each year except 2016, where it was 3.
A one loss LSU that played and beat at least 4 year end CFP Top 25 ranked teams and lost a close game to a Top 1 to 4 Alabama might have a stronger SOS than a 1 loss conference champion that lost in an upset by a big margin or to a bad team.
A 1 loss 2018 LSU would have a far stronger resume than the 1 loss 2017 Bama that lost by 12 to Auburn and didn't beat a single year end CFP Top 15 team.
It's far too early to know, just look at everything that happened in 2007. It ain't over till it's over.
