In other news, Amazon prime will go up again, and so will the merchandise prices.

I bet they do.

Easy to say when you almost have more money than God and almost no competition.

Amazon employees should strike for $20/hr.

My prime membership has been teetering on the edge of not worth it. The bump this causes it will probably push it over the edge.
But good for them. Hope they can afford it.

This makes Bezos look slightly less greedy.
Slightly.
Slightly.

Why didn’t they increase it to $20?

I highly doubt this will raise prime membership costs.

I'm glad Amazon can afford to do this. Most businesses cannot.

Um because that's a stupid point every time someone mentions it, it can both be true that the minimum wage needs to be raised and that there needs to be a reasonable upper limit to how high it should be raised.
I will never understand extremists who think every issue is either or and refuse to budge from that very stupid position. It's entirely reasonable to say "$15 an hour is a reasonable starting wage, but $20 is not" you are welcome to disagree whether $15 is a reasonable starting wage or not, but it is completely childish to say stupid shite like "why not $20 an hour?"

Amazon also said its public policy team will begin lobbying for an increase in the federal minimum wage, which has been $7.25 an hour since 2009.
Pay your people what you want, but keep your nose out of what other companies do. Is that too hard a concept?
Yeah they are only doing this as they bank on their competitors to be forced to come up to their level. It'll be a 2020 election talking point. If Trump wins again, and min wage doesnt go up then see Amazon retracting back some on their rates.
I actually thought that min wage was good to go when it was changed yrs ago?!?!

If minimum wage goes up even a few dollars, one day after that

I don't know where all their facilities are, but some states are above $7.25. Are you going to pay everyone the same or are you also going to increase wages the same percent for people that were already above it.
Hey Bill, you were making $11.75. now you will make $15. Jon was making $7.25 as an entry level, now he's going to make the same $15 an hour.

Great. Even more subsidy must be paying for this. Shite is going to get real when crude prices get back to where they probably ought to be.

Please use periods next time. Very hard to read.

Anyone expecting this to be a good faith thing is very wrong.
Bezos is all about money and there is a scheme behind it.
1. They have greatly expanded their automation, so they actually need less human capital to maintain the same profit margins.
2. Placing pressure on brick stores (Walmart, etc.) to match. Their margins are much tighter.
