I don’t want to say the name of the dealer but they sell BMW/Porsche/Audi in BR so you’ll just have to guess which dealership.
Car is due for service. Told us to bring it in Friday afternoon and they would work on it Monday. Gave us a loaner and said they would email me a quote. Never received an email. I called them this morning to confirm price before starting work.
$1975.00- oil change, spark plugs, cabin air filter and flush brake lines.
WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL frick!!!
Car only has 40k miles and they are changing plugs and flushing brake lines. SCAM
Told them no and I’d be there to pick up my car.i asked about resetting my service light. They said that would be $375!!!!! They then try to charge me $300 for the loaner.
I knew they wouldn’t be cheap but didn’t know it came with a dick in my arse.
Rant/
Update: I called two of the independent mechanic shops recommended in this thread. Both quoted me less than $600 for same work described although I feel some of it unnecessary. Both did qualify their quote with wanting to see the car first. Thanks to those that made the recs. I’ll report back after work is done and who did it and hopefully sing their praises.
So it appears the dealer is over three times what is fair.
*update*
So we finally were able to get the car in the shop for the recommended service. I first made numerous attempts to get Jeff Cobb to get him interested in the work. I brought him the car and initially said no problem and bring it back the following week. I asked for an estimate numerous times and I finally gave up. I was spinning my wheels trying to get Feedback. It was like trying to nail jello to a ceiling. Dude is nuttier than squirrel shite.
I then took Martini’s recommendation and took it to Paul Loupe. His estimate for everything that the dealer wanted was $600. Less than a third of the dealer. However half the crap the dealer wanted to do was unnecessary and sucker bait.
Anyway Paul Loupe did a fantastic job. Very fair, honest and professional.
So a certain BMW, Porsche. Audi dealship can eat a bag of dicks especially those pricks in the Porsche service department.
Thanks Martini even though you’re still a colossal prick and on this boards most hated list.

What kind of car?
What do they have to do to change spark plugs?
40k miles is a little soon for spark plugs, but not ridiculous.

Do you have a 911Turbo or something? Brake fluid absorbs water, and that's a natural service for a BMW...though at 70k miles.
Expensive cars are expensive to maintain...and it's worth it. You have an Indy you can bring it to?

Why are you paying someone to change the cabin air filter?

You sound clueless, so how would you know it's a scam? What are the recommended service intervals for your vehicle?

They're called stealerships for a reason

Subtle brag. We get it, you drive an expensive car

I got a complete brake job on my Silverado for $700 and they threw in an oil change.

When you buy a luxury vehicle, high service costs are the norm and should be expected. Did you do any research whatsoever before buying a vehicle of that caliber?
Also, why are you still servicing a vehicle with 40k miles that’s not under warranty at the dealership?
You have no one to blame in this situation but yourself. On top of that, you paid a shop to change sparkplugs!? Seriously? Do you know anything at all about vehicles?

I sued a service department at dealership before. Easy win. They claimed they did work they didn’t do and charged me for it. After I win in court they told me I’m never allowed back on property. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

!st thing I'd want to see is a breakdown of those services with prices.
Even if the parts for each of those services runs $100 (and that is ridiculously high) each, they're claiming $1500+ in labor?

the answer is Wedge Kyes on Airline

How bout a copy of the invoice so we can see what they are charging for parts, labor and amount of hours?

Sopunds like you can't afford your fancy car. Add to that the fact you are taking it to the dealer shows how foolish you are.

Never liked going to that dealership. When I had a BMW in BR I took it to Wedge Keyes for any service or repairs.
Always did a good job at a fair price and with a quick turnaround. The only downside was they didn't have any loaner vehicles.
They used to have a coupon on their website for a flat percentage off your total. Not sure if they still have that.

German dealerships are the worst at this. Its not completely their own fault. Their service intervals are so short and their requirements (from the factory) are excessive.
On my last BMW, the factory recommended replacing the brake pads, rotors, brake fluid, and wear sensors all at once ($1250). Even if the wear on the pads was only down to 50%. The dealership cannot go against the factory service specifications. I bought all the parts myself for about $400 and did it in my garage on a saturday.
I never allow the dealer to do non warranty work. I just can't justify the price. I do all of it in my garage and then use a local independent mechanic for the rest.
I still love German cars. However:
My best advice is don't own a german car unless you have shop skill or $$ money to burn.

Any idea what the service costs are for high end Japanese vehicles?
I've always heard the German vehicles dealer service charges are outrageous.

That's actually sounds like fraud. It's called "Made Up Maintenance". Years ago big dealer group on the East coast had to settle a huge class action lawsuit.
They were telling their customer all kind of stuff was required to keep warranty coverage. What they recommended was not in the OEM's maintenance guide.
Get you owner's manual or maintenance guide out. See what's required at your time/mileage. Ask them for a quote of each one individually.
For sure plugs in all vehicles are 90 to 100K miles. Brake fluid replacement about 5 years.
LOF, engine and cabin filter about 250 tops at a high end store even with full synthetic oil.
I developed dealership factory scheduled service menus for 28 years. I think they are trying to take advantage of you straight out. I would call the OEM customer line.
