In many ways we self enforce what a social credit system aims to achieve.

If you post a bunch of challenging/against-the-mainstream content on your social media, you will be marginalized by your peers and often even silenced completely.

If you post pics of puppy's and kittens and remind everyone to 'Never Forget', you will get 'likes' and likely grow your audience.

Clubbing seals, hunting wildlife in Africa, shooting varmints on your property?

Okay, but your children won’t be barred from enrolling in the school of your choice. You won’t be prevented from traveling for vacation. And you won’t be sent to a detention/re-education facility until you cave and conform.

But most of all, the evaluation of whether or not you deserve to be ostracized happens from your peers, not a government created algorithm that, from your perspective, originates out of a black box. Social trends will eventually self correct when they over extend in one direction. Broken governments exploiting social engineering to maintain power tend to require an act of war to stop.

What we have now is nowhere near the same realm of dangerous as china’s social credit system.

I'm not sure why you'd think what I said meant that what we do here is the same as in China.

It really is the biggest shame of all that the reference point for the typical mainstream person is just so far from where it needs to be.

I am not all that social, so I would probably not even register.
