A convicted murderer escaped from a Maine prison late Thursday, with authorities confirming it was the third time he has fled.

Okay, I can potentially understand this...

quote:

He’s dangerous,” Stephen McCausland, a Department of Public Safety spokesman, told the Portland Press Herald. “He’s a career criminal and residents in the Greater Charleston area need to be aware, be vigilant and take extra precautions.”

Well, that sucks...why would he be in a place he could escape then, especially if he is "dangerous"

quote:

Nash was serving a 45-year sentence for the 1991 murder and robbery of his neighbor, Wilfred Gibeault, 58, a disabled Korean War veteran, in North Sullivan, the report said.

I guess I could see why he would try to escape...He has served 26 of his 45 years....But

WTF????

quote:

Nash was scheduled to be released Dec. 14 this year, which would be 18 years before the end of his original sentence, the paper reported, citing a Maine Department of Corrections new release.

Can someone explain this to me? Is this a Brooks Hatlen thing? Like he just NEEDS to be in prison?

Like IT_Dawg said, institutionalized. The guy probably figures he won't have a chance on the outside after being in prison so long and is more scared of being left to his own devices than having the state telling him how to live day to day.

Being in 26 years is a long time and a lot has changed in that time in the free world. If he really wanted out, there is no reason for him to escape with only 3 months to go.

He was in a hurry?

People like this aren't known for their ability to think things through.

Don't assume he knew this, and don't assume he had any idea what year, month, or day it was when he escaped.

I’m surprised he was still getting out early after those escape attempts

This is why the death penalty is needed. Can't escape that.

Because he'll have no life outside of prison. I've known people to get jail charges just to stay in because that's all they have

Maybe he's gay and likes to read. If so, prison is like an all inclusive resort
