#10 Sullivan showed us how he should be used.

Jump balls are his thing. toss it up there and let his big frame bring the ball down....on the season he has 2 catches for 54 yards....40 the longest for a touchdown. Good numbers for the amount of times he was thrown to.

The biggest frustration i have with this offense is that we dont throw deep vertical passes. If we do, its some stupid route where our receiver has to make about 4 different cuts and it takes 5 seconds for the play to develop.
Whens the last time we just threw a go route or a seem.
Oh yeah...Miami when chase caught like a 30 yard pass at the pylon. AMAZING how that works.

Hopefully this entire week will be dedicated to practicing getting the ball out of Burrow’s hands quicker.

Oline needs to be able to block long enough and they aren't

we need FADES, SEAMS to go up and get it using our size and back shoulder throws
but our o line may not hold blocks that long so look for a short 3 step drop game this week. if not we may be in trouble.

bull shite.
3 step drop, sling it 40 yards. Takes no time at all.
Nothing irritates me more than seeing single coverage on the outside on 3rd and long and we never make an attempt to throw to that guy. It's just backyard football at that point. Say hike and throw it up there. If it's one on one coverage, he doesn't have to be open. The single coverage means he's open. Throw it up and let your WR make a play. If he doesn't, oh well. Better than rolling to one side of the field where 3 guys are crowded together and a pass cannot be completed safely for a first down.

That's what we were sick of seeing--the same go route, throw it up and hope someone comes down with it. What we NEED to see is quick throws--bubble screens, screens, quick slants, wheel routes. ONCE you establish that, go with the occasional go route or fancy route.

Sullivan and Anderson are mis-matches for any CB in the SEC. IRRC, LSU completed a few back-shoulder throws to Sullivan vs. Bama last year. I simply can't understand why LSU doesn't try to take advantage of their size.
If you watch the AU/Washington game, you'll see UW had success basically just putting the ball up and letting their receivers beat AU's CB's one-on-one.
LSU doesn't have the OL to consistently win battles vs. Auburn's DL one-on-one. The offensive "braintrust" has to accept that and scheme around it and keeping 7-8 in to block, while trying to allow 2 WR's to beat 5-6 in coverage isn't going to work.
All summer we had to listen to the O propaganda machine talk about how great the WR group is. Fine! fricking use them! Sure, you'd love to have a better OL and RB's, but you have a QB who appears to be an accurate good decision maker. That's 75% of the battle

It’s a misconception that the QB needs a ton of time to have a vertical passing game. As long as you aren’t running double moves, the QB should let go of a go route as soon as he hits his back foot on his drop.
If you see single coverage on the outside, throw the go route if for nothing else than showing the other team you’re willing to do it.

I'm hoping that as Joe gets more comfortable, he'll let the WRs make some plays for him. He held the ball too long a few times and paid for it.
We also have a bunch of guys over 6'4.

He looks pretty comfortable in the pocket. I'd be worried if he were bailing at the first sign of slight pressure (like Harris) or just indiscriminately getting rid of the ball (like Lee). Part of the problem is when you have 5,6,7 defenders covering 2-3 receivers, it's hard to find open men.

spot on dude, Sullivan is 6'7, Anderson is 6'5 and Drake is 6'6.. Jump balls to them should be the norm, and when they get double teamed, somebody is open on a slant somewhere.. could be #7..

Yep. It’s just that easy.

He didn't show anything! He just caught the ball for a change!
