How much fish oil is needed to do any good?

Does a healthy fish oil dosage necessitate impecunity for those of modest wages?
I don't see how even 5 pills per day provides any benefit. We're talking like 5 grams of fat from 5 pills...What's that? One bite of fish?
I've read where you'd need to take 20 pills per day for any real Omega 3 balancing to take place on a low carb diet.
140 pill/week cost roughly $30
Are you all paying $120 a month to balance out the Omegas??

Most on the shelves of any store are already rancid and are not of good quality.
I think the most important thing to key on is the O3:O6 ratio of the foods you eat. The SAD diet is an atrocious ratio of, say 1 O3 to 1000 O6. A better ratio brings this down to 1 O3 to 200 O6 (These are not correct numbers, they only show the ratio differences).

i try to to my best to do without the fish oils. But if i find my cholestrol has gotten out of whack along with my triglicerides, I will mega dose the fish oil.

I usually take some cod liver oil daily. I’m not sure it actually does anything, but why not? The one I take is 1,100 mg of DHA/EPA

The cholesterol topic where you posted this got me thinking about it:
So again, 4-5 bottles a month gets pricey! Is this only for desperate measures?

Well if you can afford it it's a good thing to do. But yes it's usually for when you need to get the cholesterol in check quickly.

Spend that money on salmon and sardines and watch your omega 6 like a hawk, until you've created good purchasing habits. Salad dressings are huge culprit. If you eat out a lot then that's a big challenge. I've grown wholly unimpressed with most restaurants as I've continually increased and improved my cooking.
I am still on the fence overall on fish/krill supplements. I don't really like risking eating more oxidized shite. There's some issue of oxidation before it even makes it to the warehouse, due to processing.
And, while I haven't picked apart the studies, there isn't much showing supplements do much good re cardiovascular disease. summary
I do keep a bottle of supposedly good dha/epa in the fridge, and am taking the remainder of my krill oil that is still in date, just because I bought them (yes dumb). I keep it all in the fridge. I take this stuff only after eating out when I know they use shitty oil.

usually made with canola oil or soybean oil. both terrible. same with hummus. Tons of omega 6 in those oils and honestly they are just terrible oils for you in general. cause lots of inflamation.
For salads stick to EVOO or Avacado oil with vinigar

make sure they aren't in oil first off. Some i saw at the store were packed in canola oil. Second, i just use a little salt and pepper or cajun seasoning and suck them down.

and yes you should store your pills in the fridge. Biotest and paleoethics prolly have the best quality fish oils on the market, but they are expensive so i don't usually refer people to them.
an easy way to get around all of this is just take 2-3 shots of olive oil and avacoado oil everyday. Of if insurance covers it, talk to your doctor about prescribing omega 3 ethyl ester pills. Essentially supplement companies created a pharmacuetical grade fish oil in the ethyl ester version, big pharma wanted it, sued using the fda and now you need a script for it. But its very very high quality and much more potenet.

I did this for a little while. Couldn't keep it up, I am not a big fan of fish to begin with and that shite was making me just about puke every morning.
I now take 2 of these every day

Maybe I missed something. Are you talking about just for fat intake? If so then yes, I drench/cook/make all sorts of stuff w these oils. But they have no omega 3 (or PUFA generally) to speak of. Almost all MUFA.
