I haven't bought new decoys in the last two years. I have a few blinds out and was shopping for cheap decoys to leave out all season. I went to academy and noticed their game winner decoys are now $40/half dozen which equates to $80/dozen. Have decoys gotten so expensive companies are having to sell them per 6 now instead of by the dozen?

Flambeau Stormfronts.

Some companies like Rogers, Simmons, MPW, etc. run a $39.99/dz. special every once in a while, but you can order them site to store through walmart for $45/dz.

They’re high, expect 80 dozen. I got teal last year for 20/6 but I waited for a sale

Rogers has a 1/2 dozen rigged Flextones for $40. Dozen Fambeaus for $40, and free shipping over $100.

Edit to 1/2 dozen on flextones

There is always black jugs.

Decoys are mostly for hunters anyway.

Most sell them this way now. Upper end decoys run $60-100/half-dozen depending on size, weighted keel, flocking, etc...

And FWIW, GW carvers edge decoys have been $40/6 for at least 3 years.

The previous GW dekes were awful and cost a little less, the carvers edge series are actually pretty decent decoys and a good deal at $40/6. You can usually catch them on sale halfway through the season though.

And a word of warning to all - avoid Hardcore brand decoys for anything other than super cheap fillers in big spreads. They're brittle, the paint flakes easily, and they crack in cold weather.

Lol. Good point.

When you can't hunt because the ice is too thick to bust...

But man I hate Hardcore decoys. I got a "deal" on some Canada goose floaters and they are garbage now after light use. I peppered on of them and my #4s busted quarter size holes in them because they're so brittle.

$40 for 6 decoys does not sound like a good deal at all. Sounds like duck hunting has gotten more expensive due to the influx of duck dynasty wanna be frat boys with daddies money.

Order the Flambeau Storm Front decoys from Walmart and do in store pick up. By far the cheapest route. Can get 6 pintail for $30. I looked everywhere and could not find a better price. The storm fronts hold up well too. I've had mine for 3 seasons and still doing well. Unless someone shoots them then all bets are off.

Declining hunter numbers would seem to indicate this is not the cause of the increased prices. Inflation alone would account for a large portion. You can still find hot buys by the dozen for $30-$40. But if you want detailed carvings, feather detail, flocking, and high quality blocks, you're gonna pay good money.

The paint on the gray ducks flaked off but the teal and coots have been good.
