I am encouraged

I just watched 30 for 30 Pete Carroll. I kind of understand this board better. They said that he was fired by 2 NFL teams. And he hadn't coached college ball in 17 years. So nobody thought that it was a good Idea to hire him. I am on record saying that by this boards standards that he wouldn't have been hired again. I still feel that way, but I am also encouraged to know how that played out. And I also learned that coach O is using some of Pete Carroll's methods. And although he wasn't mentioned, he was along for that ride. I am still optimistic, regardless of how we start off.

Pete at least took the Patriots to the playoffs, and also, USC was his first head coaching job at the college level. He had some coaching success to sell when taking a coaching position full time. O never had that.

Still nobody wanted him to be the coach. I know that you don't like the similarities.

There weren't many who wanted Les Miles at LSU either.
Your point is well taken. Plenty of successful coaches failed in their first gigs.
O was clearly not ready to be head coach at Ole Miss yet he convinced Robert Khayat and Ole Miss' AD at the time to hire him. He recruited well enough to set Nutt up for success.

Ummmmm what?
Pete Carroll’s worst record ever as a HC was 6-10. He was a successful
Coordinator prior to becoming a HC. And returned to becoming a successful Coordinator after getting fired as a HC.
O’s best record as an actual
HC prior to LSU was 4-8 and best SEC record was 2-6 (3-21 overall). He has not spent a single day as a coordinator. Either before Ole Miss or after.
If you at suggesting that people improve. Yes it’s true. I can and does happen.
But it happens because you learn from experience and mistakes. Pete Carroll was very successful as a Coordinator, something O has never been, and after his time with the Jets went back to being a Coordinator prior to becoming the HC at NE.
There is nothing in the same or even similar between them. Other than wishful thinking.

But your evaluation of O has to include the 9-4 LSU record, which some of you refuse to do. It is always about the Ole Miss era, which is irrelevant today. And you can't possibly say that O had the same talent level back then. They asked Mark Richt about playing LSU. First he laughed, then questioned who signed off on that one. Then they asked him what scheme is LSU gonna use. He laughed again, then said, it's not about the scheme it's about the dudes. Then he said that's why we talk about recruiting so much. Then said it's not about the coach it's about the dudes. And they have the dudes. Saban has had the #1 class for about 8-9 years straight. He has the dudes. That last sentence is mine.

I'll do you one better.
O is a male. Saban is a male. Therefore, O can become the greatest coach in college football history too. I am encouraged.

Literally no one does this.

To be fair you have to consider his interem stint at USC when Kiffin went completely off the rails. There were many USC people that wanted him to be the HC along with the players. Kiffin is doing great now and seems to be more mature but his last year was a shite show starting with the Sun Bowl fiasco the year before. O may fail but you can’t ignore the temp job he did at USC.

Pete Carroll was 33-31 IN THE NFL before he was hired at USC.
He was also a successful DC IN THE NFL
Do you guys actually think about stuff logically?

Two losses, including a humiliating loss to UCLA. Yay?

Are you aware that at Ole Miss Orgeron hired a coordinator that didn't run the USC offense which he has repeatedly said he wants to run and then forced that offense in his OC? Does that sound familiar at all?
We all hope he has learned from his mistakes, but to this point he hasn't shown it yet. So, the Ole Miss record and the way he coached there is extremely relevant IMO.

Yeah, that's bullshite. You never see people bring up Troy, the Canada debacle, getting blown out by Mississippi State, the big Auburn win, etc.?

I dont believe this at all. I remember him being a pretty dang good hire at the time.

How so? That's his record. I hate to tell you this, but Santa Claus isn't real either.

Any other similarities besides being bad coaches at one point?
By this logic everyone should only hire bad coaches.
