Why are we still spending taxpayer dollars on police body cameras?

I'm as back the blue as it gets. I will always fully support the guys on the streets, but their dumbass leaders like Murphy "Community Policing" Paul are just pissing away taxpayer dollars to buy these cameras that appease the fricking criminals that make it "necessary" to have one in the first place.
Now, in other jurisdictions, they are great because they show all the racism accusations are complete bullshite, but in Louisiana, they seem to always be broken when needed. Just scrap this shitty plan and let the cops go be cops and not babysitters with a camera on their chest.
Recent Incidents:
State Trooper Body Camera Defective During Perkins Road OIS
Body Camera and Dashcam Were Not Functioning For BRPD Officer Involved In August 7 OIS
Same BRPD Officer Involved in 2017 OIS That Had No Body Cam or Dashcam Footage

Putting on a badge doesn't make one infallible. There are bad cops out there. They are a small percentage, but they have immeasurable power over civilians. Cameras are a way to hold them accountable when mistakes are made.

Pretty sure its to protect both the cops and the ones being perused but ok

Because the good cops have to suffer for the bad.
Same reason there are metal detectors at sports events.
Certain police forces have lost the confidence of some of those they police. Thus the cameras.

Most often it's a deal that is offered to the department. They get a "trial" and with implemented training and use, they get grants or funding. Yes, still tax, but it's not like you are paying for these and this should be the last concern when it comes to tax payers money.

The problem with the cameras is that they’ve become a crutch, and as with technology, can be faulty.

How does that happen when they are not on half the time for one reason or another?

Dumb post. Not just for the criminal

This recent cop sort of trumps Salamoni. He appears to enjoy shooting, getting shot at, and shooting. A rush for him.

You mean they're always broken when it might make the cop look bad?

Because assholes are video taping everything on their phone anyway and only posting the clips they want to.
The body cam gives a full version of what happened.
I’d rather see the cops version than lil shawty’s, while taping his boy getting arrested “for no reason”

But:
Dallas area cop just found guilty of murdering teen. He lied about what happened, the camera showed the truth.

If 1 cop does something dirty and 11 cops keep their mouths shut then we have 12 shite cops. There are a lot of shite cops.

A new form of entertainment has sprung up from these bodycams. TV shows, YouTube channels, etc.
Posted on 8/28/18 at 7:50 pm to TigersSEC2010
So we can watch them shoot people in back running from them

Every single cop I know is crooked in some way.

Actually a lot of police officers are advocates for it now. Helps them cover their arse when someone claims that their civil rights have been abused
