You could say all of these things about the troops who've been killed. They were "dumb" to agree to fight in a war. Now they're dead so who cares about offending them, right?
1) Sure. I don't get offended
2) Not even REMOTELY the same. Those troops did not go over there, armed with a handlebar bell ONLY, to prove how "nice and wonderful" the savages are. They went to kill the fricking savages.
So, say it if you'd like. It will not offend me even a little. It would be industrial strength stupidity and false equivalency. But, be you

This is callous and ridiculous. Were these kids guilty perhaps of some naivete? Yes.

If you read a more full account of their experiences, you can see that they were adventurous people - and certainly not pussy snowflakes.
Anyone celebrating these people being killed is entirely morally bankrupt.
I told you so's aren't necessarily celebratory. I wish their social and political bubbles were grounded in reality and they're ultimately to blame for this couples willingness to quite literally walk into the jaws of death...
ISIS a good boy? How the frick do you come up with that? Seriously...

How'd that work out for you, dumbass?

You guys are fricking awful and stupid.
They were traveling in Tajikistan. Not Iraq. Tajikistan up to two weeks ago was rated level 1 by the US Department (normal precautions). Saying Tajikistan is ISIS territory after one attack is like saying the US or Europe is an ISIS stronghold after an attack.
You guys are celebrating/jeering the death of people you don’t even know because of a political belief. That’s fricking pathetic and you’re about as bad as who you say you’re against.

These stories just write themselves.
Idealist libs set out on a journey to prove that evil does not exist. They are then murdered by evil Muslims.

no, they were just dumbasses for thinking they could ride bikes through the middle east and nobody would bother them.
in case you haven't noticed lately, those muslims aren't real fond of americans

Don’t care. I think it’s great, and that it means two less mentally ill democrats get to vote.
1) those people were foolish idealists
2) the posters in this thread making comments like what I quoted are the same posters who would be the first to call out people on the left for celebrating or speaking flippantly about the deaths of conservatives. “Filth,” “sick, with no regard for human life,” they would call them.

It is rare that I ever agree with a Big Scrub post.
Correct. I read that they were the first westerners killed by ISIS/terrorists in the history of Tajikistan. And Tajikistan had a Level 1 warning from the US Travel Advisory prior to this attack. For comparison, other Level 2 countries: Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, UK, Belize, Brazil, T & C, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Maldives, Mexico, Nepal, Philippines, South Africa, Bahamas, China, and DR. How many here at TD have visited one of these countries in the last year? Are they also fricking idiots?
This is what the Pamir Highway looks like, how does that compare to New Orleans or Chicago?
From their IG:
If you scroll through their IG feed it appears they were experiencing the very best of human nature, stripped of bias and division, just people helping people, sharing food, music, smiles, service. Something that is unfortunately lost for many in this country and world. Direct IG link with descriptions in each link.

There are dozens of other photos of the beautiful landscapes, wildlife, architecture, and art they encountered.
A pretty in depth NYT article about the couple
Absolutely. It was sad to see how both the OT and the PT responded to this story. ISIS + Liberals = Dumb fricks/Darwin/etc.
I wonder how the travel board or outdoor board would respond to this story, might be an interesting experiment.
I don't think the posters mocking this couple are evil uneducated trailer trash. It is just where we are at as a society. Most people are too lazy to be bothered with reading past a clickbait title and learn "the rest of the story". I had no idea that the "-istan" former Soviet republics were so beautiful. I had no idea that most of Europe has the same danger rating as Mexico. I do have an interest in travel/adventure/culture so that is probably what motivated me to dig a little deeper in this story. Had it been a couple of vegans murdered in New Orleans I likely would not have given two shits.

And they experienced a lot of the human kindness they predicted in places that nobody on this board would have predicted them coming from.
From their IG:
quote:
On Day 319 of their journey, a Kazakh man stopped his truck, said hello and handed them ice cream bars. In a meadow where they had pitched their tent on Day 342, a family showed up with stringed instruments and treated them to an open-air concert. And on Day 359, two pigtailed girls met them at the top of a pass in Kyrgyzstan with a bouquet of flowers.

Knee jerk response is to call you a fricking idiot piece of trash, but I know the reality is you are just uninformed.
You should learn more.

Again, you people don’t know shite.
You don’t even know what countries are actually Middle Eastern. You saw “Stan” in the name, and used what little knowledge you’ve extracted from Fox to assume you know it all.
Had these people been whacked by 5 bandits in any non Muslim country, you wouldn’t be treating it as humorous. For an administration that’s supposedly winning so much, you guys sure are desperate for political refreshment due to insecurity.
