This is callous and ridiculous. Were these kids guilty perhaps of some naivete? Yes.

If you read a more full account of their experiences, you can see that they were adventurous people - and certainly not pussy snowflakes.

Anyone celebrating these people being killed is entirely morally bankrupt.

Call it what you will but this is the entire meaning of "play stupid games and you win stupid prizes"... I hate to break it to them, you and the rest of the world but there are MANY evil m'fers in this world and there always will be...

You want to go bicycling off into the sunset in their country and you get what you deserve...

Morally bankrupt? Hardly but I have seen what these fine upstanding citizens of the world are capable of...

No. No they were not "kids"

Certainly, not very intelligently adventurous

Pussy snowflakes would not be having their parents plan their funerals

So, laughing that they died from stupidity is defined as "celebrating"? silliness.

Spare me the moral outrage and lecture. These idiots are:

1) DEAD...so my laughing ain't hurting them at all

2) They WERE stupid enough to deserve the derision they are getting.

FFS, this tired bullshite again.

Trust me. No one ever gave a damn about “participation” trophies other than the parents. At most they’re mementos.

I actually think that it looks as if they simply got unlucky in the end. And they experienced a lot of the human kindness they predicted in places that nobody on this board would have predicted them coming from.

Did they make some stupid mistakes? Sure. They also lived a lot more and had a lot more conviction than the average a-hole sitting comfortably at home laughing at them.

I somewhat disagree. I get, sort of, what you're saying, but if their death helps some people to realize how dangerous the progressive & Muslim ideologies are to the world then I think their deaths will have some good meaning.

If you consider 29 to 30 years old, "living more"...

Hey, props to them, they "lived" for 389 days after they started their glorious journey, well 388 days and some hours but you get the point...

Mankind is not inherently good and hasn't been since well, you probably know the story...

I in turn sort of agree with what you're saying - but that's different than celebrating their deaths. I actually am not sure they had any particularly moslem aspect to their trip, but I would be very happy for this to be good publicity for islam being the scourge that it is. If anything, this hasn't gotten nearly enough publicity.

Why would you characterize this as "unlucky"? You make it seem like it was just a random terrorist attack that could happen anywhere and this couple was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. On the contrary, this couple was in a terrorist hotbed where attacks like that should be expected. They were as "unlucky" as a person who got hit by a car while playing in the road at night.

quote:

And they experienced a lot of the human kindness they predicted in places that nobody on this board would have predicted them coming from.
There are "good" people all over the world. That isn't the issue and I don't think anyone would argue differently. The issue is that this couple believed that evil didn't exist. They experienced the wrongness of their worldview firsthand.

quote:

Did they make some stupid mistakes? Sure.
Yes, it was a mistake to go on a bike ride through a terrorist state, but their fundamental mistake was believing evil didn't exist. It gave them a false sense of security that impacted their decisions.

quote:

They also lived a lot more
I wouldn't trade my current life to "live more" and then die a horrible, violent death in a foreign country. If you think that's appealing, you're quite foolish. They could have done what they wanted to do in a place that was a lot safer but their bad ideology got in the way.

quote:

and had a lot more conviction than the average a-hole sitting comfortably at home laughing at them.
I've said it before: passion mixed with ignorance is dangerous. There's no point in praising them for their conviction in a terrible philosophy. What's that saying? The road to Hell is paved with good intentions?

Look, I'm under no illusions about how shitty Tajikistan is. But I do think this severe of an event was an outlier, even for the terrorism they have had there - which has been largely focused on government targets. I'm sure all sorts of hikers and bikers go through there and none have been killed like this before now.

I mean, you could say the same general thing about someone who decided to go to Israel and then got blown up in a suicide bomb attack. Would they be stupid or just unlucky in that scenario? We all know that suicide bombings are possible there. It's all about risk/reward. Despite what just happened to these two, it is still vastly unlikely to happen to any given traveler there.

Yes, that was naive and stupid.

Four fewer terrorists and two fewer democrats who want to import them. I'd call that a solid day's wotk.
