How did the AFC East become such a dumpster fire?

Seriously. Will any AFC team leap frog the patriots?

Not my Dolphins. The most frustrating, gutless organization in the NFL.

Baltimore belongs in the East
Miami belongs in the South
Indianapolis belongs in the North

The jersey jets traded Bellichek to New England for first rounder in 2000 and 4th and 7th in 2001.
At the time I thought it was the worst trade since cowboys stole Minnesota blind.

Apparently Now the Jets have their Jetsiah in Darnold and the Bills theirs in Allen, the division got a tad more interesting atm but I don’t think it’ll be sufficient to immediately overcome the Pats do anticipate more competitive games at least

The Patriots have been kicking everyone’s arse for years, so the other teams have made some questionable decisions to try to get over that hump that just haven’t worked out.

Probably pretty difficult to build a "winning attitude" when you have to fight for the wildcard every year, and when you don't get it, your coach gets fired, beginning anew.
Draft a new QB again and rinse, repeat.

I've long suspected the Patriots planted moles in all the front offices of the AFC East to frick up their scouting, drafting, and free agency matters.

nobody has been able to find a decent QB during Brady's time in New England

There has likely never been a team in the history of sports that benefited more from the division in which they play.

It's going to stay this way when Tommy Goat retires and Etling assumes the role of Danny Goat and rattles off 15 AFC East titles and 10 Lombardi parties.

browns could actually win some games if they play cards right

So are you going to compare their winning percentage against the AFC East against their winning percentage against every other division?
Tom Brady does not have a losing record against any team in the NFL. They consistently show up in the biggest games on the biggest stage, advance far in the playoffs, and have represented the AFC in the Super Bowl 8 times, and a winning record there too. If your argument was true, they wouldn't have the best out of division winning record since 2001, which they do. They also wouldn't consistently progress far in the playoffs, which they do.

Let's be honest: they do benefit from the ineptitude of the rest of that division, those teams suck but its not the Pats' fault its incumbent on those teams to improve themselves so they supplant them, the Pats TCB and have advanced to the Super Bowl 8x so they TCB in the AFC Playoffs as well, we have to accept things for what they are and apparently dominating in the AFC LEast hasn't been detrimental to the Pats come playoff time nor when it comes to submitting 13-3, 14-2 regular season records consistently the past 17 seasons, that's penalizing teams for TCB and doing their jobs and that's simply an unjust approach.

The Steelers have been in the same division Browns and Bengals for decades. Yes they have the Ravens, but they use to be the Browns.

Considering the Yankees and Sox are in the same division, that nullifies your point. And the Rays, Jays, and Orioles have each had brief moments of success.
A brief moment of success in the AFC East is a wild card appearance and playoff loss right off the bat.

Look at the Saints- a couple decades as arguably the worst franchise in the NFL. Mora comes in, and yes- he got an influx of talent from the USFL. But he also built from the draft, and the offense wasn't star-driven. Goal was stout defense and special teams. Biggest scoring threat was Morten Anderson.
Spent a decade chasing the 49ers, the best team in football. Never really caught them. Never won a playoff game. But the franchise elevated to one of the best regular season teams in that stretch, and stayed respectable afterwards (letting Payton work at raising them that last notch).
