Minn Kota Ulterra or Motorguide Xi5 trolling motor

Minn Kota's are definitely more popular and I like how you can control them with a compatible Hummingbird unit. However, does anyone have first hand knowledge of the wireless Motorguides? I currently have a 20 year Motorguide Great White, so I know they make a great product.

Are you talking remote controlled for saltwater? I had the xi5 with wireless pedal that I could not get rid of fast enough.

Yes

As long as the anchor works that is all that matters.

Motorguide.
My dads MK Ulterra is crap. Been in the shop 5x in the last year and half. Works well when it’s actually working. I’ve heard a lot of similar complaints from other owners.

I haven't had experience with these two models in particular, but I've had experience with both brands. I personally will never own another Motorguide again unless it happens to come with a boat I purchase, in which case I will sell it and replace with a minn kota.

Ultrex is just ridiculous. I don't think they have a specifically for saltwater model yet, but they are a real game changer. It's still cable steer, but it has electric power steering, has spot lock, and you can still control it with a remote. The foot pedal is smooth as butter and will spoil you on how easy it is to steer.

I didn’t see one on their website.

Does that mean I don't need a PowerPole.

The only time I really use mine now is when I pull up on the bank. I'm sure I'll still use them come spring time, but for most applications the ultrex will do fine. It will turn you into the wind or current when you have spot lock on.

. My brother asked me the other day when I was going to get another power pole? I told him never because I only use it to hold my boat on the bank.

Except when it glitches and auto deploys while on step.

I'd never buy one with auto deploy. Seen my buddies do something stupid more trips than not
