You realize that comment was made when Saban was already at Alabama, right?
Saban was in BR on the Thursday night before the SECCG to meet with Skip on Friday. Had Les left, he would've been our coach.
he had just finished his first season at Alabama and didn't have nearly the clout he does now, so yea, he could've come back here.

Whatever critical play Iowa state made to beat Oklahoma State in 2011

That play launched a National championship team for the first time in 45 years in Baton Rouge and helped set the stage for the next 15 years.
Eh, more like 10 years...

No he wasn't. Saban was in Atlanta that Thursday for an SEC dinner function. I know this for a fact. The local news covered it and spoke with Saban. His good buddy Mike Raita asked him about the upcoming bowl game and his overall thoughts on the 2007 season.
You also can't just "meet" with another school. Intermediaries can speak but in college you have to get permission to speak with another teams coach. These stories are great. ecb said it best up above.

Gotta be Billy Cannon's punt return Halloween night against Ole Miss right? Most iconic play in program history

I’ll add the Mauck to Devery TD bomb on the first play of the 4th quarter at Ole Miss in 2003. Biggest game in Oxford in 40 years and the crowd was never the same after that play.

1) Billy Cannon's Halloween run.
2) Warren Morris home run against Miami for the Championship.

quote:This is the correct answer. Ole Miss is not the Ole Miss of today. He played both sides of the ball. He was coached to let the ball go pass him. Nine or ten Ole Miss players had a chance to tackle him. He was very tired on a muddy field. A player with a lot of heart.
