Not to go too much against the grain, but the field goal by oklahoma state that was called no good against iowa state in 2011 was a pretty big play that altered LSU history, imo.

You realize that comment was made when Saban was already at Alabama, right?

you're a dumbass. saban wasn't hired until January

yes, January in 2007. Herbsreit made those comments before the SECCG in December of 2007.

saban was still coaching the dolphins in December 2007

um, no he wasn't. LSU beat Saban in Tuscaloosa in November of 2007

Yes, December 21 in 2006

As great as Billy Cannon's punt return was, it gave LSU the lead. It took a defensive stop on Ole Miss QB Jake Gibbs to preserve the win for the Tigers.

Marcus Spears' interception for a TD was huge in lifting LSU to the win but it wasn't the defining play. Same for 2007 National Championship game. I could argue Rickey Jean Francois blocking the OSU field goal was the catalyst to LSU making an incredible comeback.

Warren Morris' two-out, two-run, walkoff home run in the CWS propelled LSU to a National Championship. I don't know how it gets bigger than that?

Would definitely put the Cannon run as that play that put LSU football on the map and the status it has today even with the downturn of the late 80's into 90's.

Morris homerun did more to put college baseball and CWS into the event it has become. Before not too many took college baseball seriously. After that play, I think college baseball got some credibility and now you have players going straight from college and being major players in pennant races.

Cannon’s run was the year AFTER they won the NC, so I’m not sure it put them on the map. It is, however, the most famous play in LSU football history.
BTW....... Ole Miss did the same thing that year to LSU that Bama did to LSU in 2011/2012.

Eric Reid interception

LINK

Well, probably not the single biggest play but it was the last time we beat BAMA.

This. The Ky fans had already poured Gator Aid on the coach and the fans were filling the field in victory. And then they realized they lost to LSU.

:01 left in OM(‘09?).... Not biggest play in a good way, but I think solidified the growing concerns about Miles game management and destroyed any momentum the program had. Hands down, the last decade LSU should have had at least 3 NCs. I think that game changed the course of the program. Players(best in the nation) and fans knew they were being out coached in every big game.

Not a LSU fan but know a lot and they all lacked confidence after that game.

Meant to say we were down, my bad. Considering the game situation and what was at stake, it was a pivotal play.

No.

Whatever we would’ve offered him, Bama would’ve probably doubled it. He came to get the coaching job back after he was done in Miami and was told (in so many words) “we’ve got our guy.”

Jacob Hester's late 2nd quarter ground effort gets a equal vote from me. He put LSU 24 tOSU 10 halftime.
