Year 2 is not too soon to expect results

O apologists are already gearing up for a disappointing 2018, telling LSU fans to lower expectations for their boy this season because he “needs time”.
What they aren’t telling you is that great coaches frequently produce results in year 2:
Nick Saban
Year 2 at LSU: SEC Champion
Year 2 at Bama: Went 12-2
Urban Meyer
Year 2 at Utah: Went undefeated
Year 2 at Florida: National Champions
Year 2 at Ohio State: Went 12-2
Bob Stoops
Year 2 at Oklahoma: National Champions
Pete Carrol
Year 2 at USC: 11-2 won Rose Bowl
Chip Kelly
Year 2 at Oregon: Played for NC
Kirby Smart
Year 2 at Georgia: Played for NC
Mark Richt
Year 2 at Georgia: 13-1 SEC Champions
Year 2 at Miami: First 10 win season in 14 years
Mark Dantonio
Year 2 at Mich St: First 9 win season since Saban
Even just looking at LSU’s history before Saban and Miles: Dinardo, Archer and Arnsparger all had very good seasons in year 2.
Don’t fall for the low expectations game the Derek Ponamsky’s and Marcus Spears’ of the world would have you believe. It is perfectly fair to expect results in year 2.

Oh...don’t forget Lincoln Riley, who had OU in the playoff YEAR 1.

You mean year 3? Who cares if it was interim. He had complete control

No apologist here, but the biggest reason many folks are down is because the schedule is as tough as it has ever been. A lot kind of rides on that first game with Miami, if they win that, they could have a really good season, if they lose, they have to beat a lot of VERY good teams to end up having a good season.
Schedule can play as big a part of things as anything. When you rotate Syracuse off for Miami and Tennessee off for UGA...things get a lot tougher.

I don't see how anyone could argue this, but Im anxious to watch people try.

O is not the caliber of any of those coaches...so what's your point?
You're acting like you're telling us something we don't already know.

You tards are gonna be as lost as little puppy dogs when LSU blows the roof off this thing in a few weeks.
Nothing to cry about.
Miserable fricks.

Also, O’s hire was billed as a “non-rebuild”. He was supposedly hired for continuity
All of those coaches you listed WERE hired to rebuild and rejuvenate their struggling programs
O was expected to compete for sec title immediately

I don't count that as year 1 because he didn't have complete control. He just took over someone else's coaching staff and playbooks.

I'm still wondering when this turned into a rebuild

Don’t let last seasons SOS taint your view of this seasons SOS.

So by similar logic, if Orgeron goes to a NY6 bowl this year he belongs in the conversation with the coaches you listed?

The schedule is the same as it was when LSU played the best team in the East (Florida) along with a middle of the pack team. The West isn't as strong as it was when it was by far the strongest division in college football. Miami is just another OOC opener like Oregon, TCU, UNC or Wisconsin (WVU also even though it wasn't an opener). This schedule is no more difficult than normal. It's just more difficult than last year's snoozefest.

The decline Happened under his watch, not Os

It was always a rebuild.
If LSU had kept les it would still be a rebuild.
Why do you think 2016 was “the year” ? LSU was loaded wth juniors from the 2014 class and seniors like pocic and beckwith.
They had 8 players drafted and another 8 signed as UDFA.
having said that, I think O masked some of this when pitching to Alleva, then of course made it a point to talk nonstop in 2017 about the number of freshmen playing.

wat
I am expecting big things
most Tiger Fans are
I don't start each day thinking about O either
Just about how good my Tigers might be
Most fans of most schools wait to see bad on the field before they start trashing the coach but in LSU world these days you can't get enough of O bashing pre-season before the team has hit the field
OP - just wanted you to know
Good Job - one more never ending Coach O centered thread - keep it up
After the Miami game make sure you give O credit for winning the game
If he is the reason for every game we lose
he must be the reason for every game we win
