It's not like the city is paying for this Beer Garden

Now I believe state funds being used for the road diet, with the goal to transfer ownership of the road back over to the city once completed. But something needed to be done with fixing the issues on the road.
I think most of the hate for Govt street on here comes from the suburbanites who shite on the idea of making the street three lanes and more walkable. But the surrounding neighborhoods love the idea.
Vox recently had a great youtube video explaining how this works, and the areas of Govt street with the traffic counts mentioned fix well within the guidelines to do this.

The little whole in the wall places popping up on Govt is neat and hopefully it continues to grow and get better. It will help that whole area of town.
I went to Radio Bar recently for first time and was impressed, ate at Elsie's Plate and Pie and walked across street. It had a nice vibe although I have no desire to hit the bar scene anymore. It was dog friendly.
Can't wait to see what kind of food they serve at the beer garden.
Want to try the White Star Market as well.
I'm a little concerned about that bowling hangout they are trying to develop. The clientele in that area might be hard for it to take off.
Not to mention at some point parking might become hard around all these places.

I'm trying to think of something new that has open in that part of town recently. The only thing I can come up with is that Bleacher's Sports bar & Newk's. Which are both pretty forgettable.
As far as Barcadia goes. I know they seem to get a decent crowd on trivia night and that their happy hour is pretty cheap. Outside of that, I'd be surprised if that place lasted much loner.

Who gives a frick about the main thoroughfares being "walkable"? You're damn right that I shite on the idea of making Government an impassable mess that puts even more traffic on I-10.

You know who cares? The people who live there. The arguments against this are so played out.....

Now I can have a few brews and get robbed of my remaining money when I walk back to my car.

White Star is pretty legit
Soji and Rocco Pizza are legit date night spots. Brew Ha-Ha! on Jefferson Hwy has nice specialty items as far as cakes and juices go. Mid City Wine & Brew has good selection of alcohol.

Which seems like the main target for the Beer Garden.

Tripplett’s Blue Store opened another location by the police station

The "people who live there" are a very small portion of the traffic on Government. And making Government useless for through-traffic does nothing but hurt the businesses that are opening there.

I live where Government was usually the best option to get to and from work downtown. With the construction that is no longer the case, and with it morphing from a four lane to a two lane street, it will never be a good option for anyone who isn't interested in overpaying for a craft beer or an avocado burger.

Now that govt st will be a 2 lane road with a bicycle lane, I can ride my hipster beach cruiser to an overpriced biergarden in 110 degree heat. Oh the leadership in BeeRah is so wise. I will say a special prayer to Saint George.

You seem pretty salty about any type of development or improvement to Government St.

Yes. Anytime somebody posts something positive about Government street the haters come out and act like it's some kind of murder infested shithole. As a 25 year resident of the area it pisses me off.
Please don’t get mad and murder somebody, the cops already have their hands full up there

I'm all for development and improvement. I was driving Government every day and using their businesses like crazy. Improve the street, I'm all for that. But don't cut the lanes in half and tout it as an "improvement".
