I'm sure a number of people will find a way to complain about this being built in BR. Just like the Chimes rooftop bar thread a few weeks ago.

Exactly. It’s virtually non existent, and what better venue than a beer garden to feature it?

It’s not a HATE thing, it’s an apathy thing. Most BR natives have heard time and time again about these government street ideas and improvements. Heck, look at 3rd Street. By all accounts it’s trending downward. Remember around 2006 when 3rd Street was booming?

I think area locals are tired and remain skeptical about things that are so promising just to be let down.

Hopefully they incorporate a roof and a few “big arse fans” considering Baton Rouge’s climate.

If Culinary Dropout has a massive outdoor space for games in Phoenix/Tempe that’s open in those dreadful summers, we could certainly do the same in Baton Rouge.

They started cracking down on people walking around with "open containers"

Also the BRPD around Raisin' Canes were acting like a bunch of assholes on most nights.

3rd street started becoming more of a hassle and thus made it less attractive than other nightlife attractions.

BR should go All In on getting an NBA G-League team if they want to save the downtown nightlife.

Will have to decide whether to sport dreads or a man-bun for the grand opening.

I'm skeptical of all these master plans because they depend on my tax dollars to get rolling.

A well connected group gets the mayor or council to help them with our tax money. It seldom works.

Look at the so called Southdowns area on Perkins Road. It's a great, traditional neighborhood area. It just happened. So did the area around the Chimes.

Perkins Rowe, MOL, etc. were all private developments. So were Bon Marche', Delmont Village and Cortana. Some last longer than others, but the key thing is private developers took a chance.

Trying to orchestrate Government Street and Third Street is a long shot IMHO. These plans will probably go down in flames as did Catfish Town.

Government Street will work only if private developers do their thing, have good plans and work their endeavors.

What exactly is great about the area around Chimes? Besides Chimes.

Some love it, but it did lose a lot of what made it unique when they built that new shopping center.

Nothing in terms of nightlife but they do have several successful businesses in that area.

I am skeptical on how much longer Barcadia will last though

?

Have you been down Government St Mid City lately?
It's booming with private investments. New restaurants everywhere you look. They're also totally gutting and redoing the old Entergy Building closer to downtown into a Multi Use development similar to Square 46.

Have you been down Gov't street lately? I can get having a bit of apathy. But I can think of a number of recent shops/restaurants (A few not listed in the article) that have helped the area grow.
