Is it normal for women to be head of Boy Scout troop?

I am currently on a flight with a couple boy scouts and their leader, but she’s a women. Is this regular practice or new thing since the rule change?

This is the “new normal” where logic goes out the window.
The having sex with students problem would only happen in a school with a teacher. In scouts, it won’t ever happen. Just like socialism, this time it will work better.

Does the term "Den Mother" ring a bell at all?

Seriously, the moms in our pack do quite a bit to organize the stuff for the pack. It would be very hard to do it without their participation.

You've never heard of a den mother?

It would if it was Cub Scouts. He said Boy Scouts where women traditionally have no supervision over developing teen boys. It has always been father led for obvious safety issues.

Long as she's not a teacher

I was just asking because I was never involved in a Boy Scouts troop and always thought it was male only deal.

Cub Scouts are part of the Boy Scouts and he said there were "a couple" of them flying with a woman. Hardly sounds like "head of a Boy Scout troop".

Women Scout Masters have been allowed for 30 years

Dude...... My best friend's mom was our den leader back in Cub Scouts. That was somewhere around 1984ish. All of the dads worked. The only people available immediately after school was somebody's mom.

This was my experience in the late 80's. The stay-at-home moms did most of the grunt work to keep the pack going.

I used to be in scouts and there were a couple women that were involved in the troop. The scout master and assistant scout masters were all guys, but some of the moms really helped out. Most of them were all in administrative type rolls, but some of them came on campouts and events and whatnot.

Maybe she started as a Den Mother and advanced through the ranks.

We had moms and dads leading in many different ways, all with the title of Assistant Scoutmaster. Heck, I think the moms had more wood badge training than the dads. I wouldn't think you saw anything out of the ordinary.

This is my experience (I have cub scouts, boy scouts and girl scouts ).
Cub scouts is mostly moms. Maybe 60-70%
Boy scouts is mostly dads. But a few troops have mom's who do a lot of the upkeep.
My sons boy scout troop is all dad leaders. But mom's keep the money. Keep the calendar. And sit through the meetings when the childs dad is not one of the applied for leaders.
