LAFAYETTE LA -
A former Youngsville Police officer has died while training for a position at Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries.

Immanuel Washington was also a UL basketball player, and he worked for the police department for two years before entering the academy for LDWF.

Washington collapsed yesterday during the physical training portion of the academy.

Youngsville Police released a statement about Washington saying," All that knew him were always left with a joyous feeling after making contact with Immanuel. He had a contagious smile that would crack even the grouchiest of people

Basketball players seem to have a lot of undiagnosed heart conditions. RIP.

No hijacking, but there's a lot of kids running 2-a-day drills this time of year.

Any training right now is 'voluntary.' Fall practice wont start for another couple of weeks. A kid from Natchitoches died of heat stroke during football workouts 10-15 years ago which led to the current practice of water breaks during games etc.

It was a brain aneurysm. He was a life long friend of mine from 1st grade all the way though high school. His older brother Rogers played at lsu in the late 90s. He was one of the best human beings I've ever known. It's been a pretty rough day today.

Thank you. We all lost today guys. The world was truly a better place with him in it. Thoughts and prayers should be for his family though. I just can't imagine. He was special.

Very sad. Wife’s cousin played ball with him and says he was a very good person. Too young.
