anyone who agrees with this is stupid.

75 million guaranteed is more money than LSU paid or will pay O, Miles and Saban, combined.

You know Georgia fired Richt for the same record as Les that year?

No one gave a shite because Georgia’s AD controlled the narrative. Joe did not.

History repeated itself with the Herman negotiations. Media got a hold of it and when Herman wanted to listen to Texas, Alleva was more worried about being embarrassed in the media, so he hired O in a hamfisted attempt to control the narrative. Never mind that he embarrassed himself even worse that way.

lol no shite sherlock.

the biggest problem with this contract IS time.

Jimbo just switched jobs that gave him a

1) less talented roster

2) in a more talented division.

how long are aggies gonna be patient and give jumbo time to get his players in and turn this program around? 2 seasons, 4 seasons? 6 seasons?!?!

Those actually seem like good reasons to give him some patience and an extended commitment.

They know Saban won't be around forever, so A&M wants to be in a position to slide into the lead dog spot when he retires. And Jimbo is already killing it on the recruiting trail.

Everybody thought Bama was nuts to give Saban the contract they did in 2007, but Mal Moore wouldn't take no for an answer. Fortune favors the bold.

why do people think alleva had anything to do with this? it was all f king. from what i understand, alleva was working with the boosters to make it happen. f king shut it down.

Alleva couldn’t keep his goddamn Dept under control and let the media dictate the story.
what does this have to do with anything? alleva and the boosters wanted jimbo and jimbo wanted lsu. it was a done deal until f king stepped in over the money

We weren't getting Jimbo in 2016, but we had him in 2015. He was ours. Deal was agreed to.
i don't understand how people don't know this story. it was all over the boards for a long time.

i've never heard anything about this. it wasn't alleva. it wasn't jindal. it was f king. he was very public and vocal about it

Lol people still don’t know how buyouts work

Whether you agree with the hiring or not, alleva wanted to hire O. The buyout money to cover what his salary would be is rather common, and it sure isn’t “massive” like some idiot mentioned

Eh, it’s pretty common formproven coaches.

Lots of other coaches aren’t essentially guaranteed their full contract.

Wasn't Alleva's fault. He had a deal in place. You can thank Stanley Jacobs, Bobby Jindal, and the rest of the BOS for killing that deal in the 11th hour.

Will wade got a 6 year deal.

That’s patience and an extended commitment.

Jimbo got 7.5 million, guaranteed, for 10 years.

That’s a whole helluva lot of patience and quite a damn commitment, and for what, for him to wait out Saban?

So they are in essence conceding that they are wasting 22.5 million paying him for the first 3 years while Saban is still around?

Good grief, I’m happy some of y’all are not the AD. Y’all would make Alleva look like Jeff Bezos.

It could have worked out, but Alleva is weak and stupid. He waffled on the dismissal of Miles late in 2015, rather than firing him after losing to Ole Miss and then working out a deal with Jimbo in the interim.

Once again Lester Earl proves himself to be an idiot.

The reason most programs are not like LSU and fire coaches with enormous buyouts is because they cannot fire their coach because they can’t foot the bill for the enormous buyout.

Lovie Smith comes to mind for a P5 coach.

Lmao. He went to a&m for 75m guaranteed. Jesus christ

Listen you foul mouthed lesbo.
He was making 60 million at FSU. Clearly he wanted out of that situation. He wasn't offered $75 million by TAMU after 2016, yet was linked to the LSU job then...a year earlier than the TAMU job opening.

He isn't at LSU because our admin couldn't negotiate a used car sale properly.

You know what else is a stupid gamble? Promoting the defensive line coach, who was the worst coach in Ole Miss history, over the best coach on the staff.

That’s irony for you.

TAMU going all out on a NC winning coach = stupid gamble

Us hiring a career loser when we could’ve had any number of coaches = let’s just wait and see what happens
