Sounds to me like Fisher wanted the LSU job, Alleva didn't want to pay him.

The only reason I hesitate to say he absolutely wanted the LSU job is that Sexton kept coming back to LSU for more and more. So did Jimbo want the job or was he setting up leverage with Florida State?

Maybe Sexton knew a higher bidder would come calling a year or two down the road and convinced Jimbo to wait. Point is, Jimbo could have agreed to terms and it could have been kept quiet. Instead it drug on, Les got his media buddies involved, and he beat a shitty A&M team because the team assumed it was his last game and they played their asses off for him.

Alleva scrweed up and F King is a total joke but I think Jimbo/Sexton played a role in the deal as well.

Why? Are you personally paying the coach's salary? I'd rather LSU take a chance spending money on a winner, especially since they're wasting money anyway.

Obvious.

Yes, people that buy tickets pay the coaches salary

It was 2015, but your point still stands.

I would be sick paying even Saban 75M.
People are fricking dumb.
A&M cost/loss is gonna be hilarious.

Maybe both. I think Jimbo was genuinely torn about leaving a potential championship team behind at FSU.

The relationship with FSU was likely already crumbling, but I think he believed he had teams capable of winning big. Another national championship would have given him a ton of leverage, either in his demands to FSU or if he wanted to skip town.

Of course, A&M ended up paying a king's ransom anyway without the anticipated success.

I think it was much easier for him to leave FSU after a losing season than the season we pursued him.

Jimbo pushed to oust Coach Bowden and used LSU to leverage FSU, he is no saint or savior.

He rode Jameis for all he could after that it all went down.

In time we will really see how good he really, or is not.
Time will tell.

You people can knock A&M all you want. At least they're willing to go out and take significant risks in order to get to a championship level. Our AD is obviously content with being Bama's bitch.

And Miles never threw anyone under the bus? How about O? He possibly went behind Miles' back to get him fired.

That's what coaches do. They use their players to win. It's not like they're out there playing themselves.

That's not where the bulk of a coach's salary comes from.

I still don't understand this argument against Jimbo. He doesn't have to apologize for recruiting and developing a Heisman trophy winning QB. It's not like he never produced really good QBs in the past.

He won Orange Bowls before and after Jameis. Entering last season, he still had won 76% of his games without Jameis. Jimbo hasn't been some bum who happened to luck into a great player for a couple of years. That 2013 team was loaded with NFL talent all over the field.

The people using the "It wasn't Jimbo, it was Jameis" argument are in denial.

You know what else is a stupid gamble? Promoting the defensive line coach, who was the worst coach in Ole Miss history, over the best coach on the staff.

2014 season is when he introduced the Miles clause in Chavis' contract. The firing process began shortly after giving Miles a huge buyout.

Does this mean Alleva will be fired after a mediocre year? Then LSU gets Scott Woodward?

waiting to see if it was Jimbo or Jameis ???
All I can say is that his program went down and he could not recover it as soon as Jameis left.

I am not saying he is a bad coach, but a $7.5 MM yr coach...that's something different.

Time will tell.
