Can’t remember where I read or heard it (maybe the race broadcast?) but apparently Emma chose Boston because she felt her build suits the course well.
Fauble had a good push to take 7th on the men’s side as well.

I ran Boston yesterday setting a PR at 3:54. My quads are more sore than normal which I presume is due to the first few miles being downhill. I was amazed at how the city really gets behind the race. Next up for me is the Berlin Marathon in September in my quest for the Abbott world majors.
ETA. I wore my LSU visor while running. I bet I heard over 400 Geaux Tigers.

Dude love it! That’s awesome.
Got my first pair of super shoes (adidas adios pro 2’s). I did 2 quick strides in them to dick around this evening and holy hell I feel like I’ve opened a whole new world.

Congrats!
Question: How did you gain entry to Boston with setting a personal PR of 3:54?
Asking for myself as I want to run all of the World Majors but feel that one is out of reach due to qualifying time and my PR being about 40 mins apart.
TIA

You can join one of the approved charities to get a race bib with no qualifying time required. The World Major Marathons all have this option as well. The major difference being this is the only way I know of to get in Boston if you are not fast enough to time qualify (for me as a 51 yo male it required <3:25 marathon.) The minimum amount you have to raise is usually 5-10K.

Starting a fun little challenge in an hour. Yeti 24hr/50k challenge. Will be running 5.2 miles every 4 hours for 24 hours. 1st run at 7p, then 11p, 3a, 7a, 11a, and 3p Saturday to finish. 3 runs on trails, 3 on roads.

Starting my wind down for race day
Monday: 8 easy (7:30 pace)
Tuesday: 3 by 10 minute tempos (5:54 or so average) not my best effort. Didn’t feel winded just couldn’t get the legs rolling for some reason. (7ish miles total)
Wednesday: 8 easy (7:24 pace)
Thursday 1k,2k,1k,2k,1k,2k,1k aiming for 3:45 per k average (hair faster than goal marathon pace) ended up averaging 3:38 per k and felt relatively easy with it.
Friday: 8 moderate (7:15 average)
Saturday: long run. Ran most of the half course with a buddy. Started off slow and worked into 6:20 or so pace the last couple miles. (12.5 total)
Ended up with 51 miles marked on strava. Looking to be somewhere around that again this week with some more speed tuning

Nice! When and where is the race? What are you shooting for?
Just saw London Marathon results - Kiptum coming for the king. Dude has run two marathons, both sub 2:02:00. Negative split the second half today sub 60 to finish at 2:01:25 - insane. Only 23 years old too.

May 7th. Prarie Fire half in Wichita
Shooting for anything under 1:21 to qualify for NY. Think I’m in shape to target 1:18 so that’s what I’ve been training for that way if I miss I should still hit the 1:21 mark.

Those are speeds in which I'm unfamiliar. 1:40 is a great day for me.

I think Kiptum is going to be our first “legitimate” sub 2 hour runner. Negative splitting a sub 60 is unheard of.

quote:shite I’m barely familiar with it anymore. in college I probably could’ve gone closer to the 70 minute mark if I trained for it but that’s been a few years and many Oreos ago. I’m just glad to be getting back into a groove again.

First Marathon Completed on Saturday
4:27 - not horrible not amazing, but still completed. Half came in right at 1:59 which was a PR for me.
Now time to train for the Grand Canyon Death March in October (Rim to Rim to Rim in less than 24 Hours - hope to complete it in sub-20 hours)
Then after the Death March will train to post a sub-4 Hour Marathon in December

R2R2R has been on our list for a while. hopefully next year we will finally get to tackle it. little motivation for you... women's unsupported FKT is 8hrs... men's supported is 5:55. oh and the double crossing is 17:55.
if you put in a heavy load of training to prepare for this, you'll be surprised at how much it can help your marathon time. trained for my 1st 100-miler before running a marathon. you legs know what its like to be on them for long time so the marathon "feels short".

That's actually my goal, most of the running guys on Youtube have pointed to "ultra" training as one of the things that sped up their "smaller" runs the most
I can definitely see it - for instance my 5k best was 22 minutes before training for a Marathon. Now the 5k feels so short I did it in 18 the other day
ETA: I'm supposed to do 6 miles today if I follow the 24 week plan... we will see if I make it to 6 miles 3 days after a marathon haha
