I could not be on city council because I would barrage them...especially the latter 2. I work all day and then show up at CC and listen to their unemployed asses?
Well the first one has been awfully quiet since going to law school ( ) compared to the other 2 bafoons.

I have skills doing political signs, door hangers, ads, etc. These things aren't free of course, gotta pay vendors, the but if you raise some money and get a budget going for this stuff drop me a line.

Council? Yes
Parish President? Yes, but not on their first try.
In AP, a good ol’ boy political rookie almost beat Matassa, but there were just enough dead voters to put Matassa over the top by a couple dozen votes...in a parish of 120,000 people.
If Cointmont runs again, he’d win by a comfortable margin.

How many you think Matassa bribed for that win?

My dad knows all the players that are involved in this case said the state witnesses were basically the 3 stooges.

Can an average Joe run for Parish President or Council and win?
Maybe not win, but he can certainly run and then get paid to drop out.

What constitutes average Joe? Someone who works a 9-5 with two kids and a dog? Or, someone who has one or two things they think sets them apart?

I’ve worked inside multiple local and statewide elections. One thing I can advise—regardless of the race—is find yourself a group of lawyers willing to donate money.
One of the things that surprised me most back in my ambulance chasing days was how much money our firm paid out to just about any/every podunk candidate who asked. It was usually $250 minimum and $500 if anyone in the firm knew the candidate. (That’s in late 1990 dollars FWIW).
Later on, I worked inside multiple campaigns, and they all used the shite out of “lawyer money.” Basically, the lawyers want a connection in case a client ever needs a favor, and the candidates want money money money. It’s a match made in heaven.
Seriously, reach out to local attorneys and find out who the major donors are in your area. I’ve got some ideas since you mentioned Ascension, but it may vary from one side of the parish to the next.
From there, you’ll want to target high-participation voters with flyers, yard signs, and maybe even targeted Facebook ads. Make sure you have a place to collect contributions online. And make sure you hook up your boy FCP with plenty of hookers and blow. You can waste the rest on actual campaign activities if you insist.

I've gotten to know several of our local councilmen, and the parish president, really well.
A few things about council that I have observed ...
1) They spent between 10K and 20K to win. That means you have to either raise that much money, or spend your own money.
2) They all pretty much are well known in the community, or are related to / connected to someone well known in the community.
3) It helps if you own your own business / are self-employed. Outside of council and committee meetings, they spend an average of 20-30 hours a week doing the work of a councilperson. Answering phone calls, meeting and responding to citizens, showing up at events/ribbon cuttings, reading and reviewing ordinances, etc.
That's all very hard to do if you don't control your own schedule. Every single one of our seven councilpeople are either retired or own their own business.

That's my concern. He had my vote last time and if he ran again, I agree, he'd win again. BTW kingbob, everytime I see a post on this site about AP, you seem to know a lot of stuff. If I drop you my email, can I ask you a few questions?

I'm completely an average Joe. Upper Middle class AP resident. Heavily involved in my church, and in the Veteran community. Nothing sets me apart. I just want to be the change I want to see and not be a corrupt a-hole.

If you are looking to run for something, I’d recommend driving down the street of Greenbriar/St. Andrews. A few people there you may want to talk/shake hands with... just saying
