The thing that makes Archer so damn valuable, is that contract.

3 more years at 8.5 A complete bargain for a guy who when right has top2 stuff.

And that contract is valuable for what he gives you. But I've gone from give the Rays anything they want to get a deal done to, if it only makes sense

We’ve already been over this. You couldn’t find anyone comparable

And it doesnt matter about finding someone comparable when the entire outlook on rentals has shifted

there’s like a million scouts at the game watching machado

what the frick is the point of that? dude has been in the league for years and he’s really fricking good. why do you need to send scouts there? “yeah, uh, he’s still good boss.”

In what way? Context matters. Our opinions on things evolve. Manny is probably the best player available at the deadline since cliff Lee. That's not for debate. However, that doesnt change the fact that teams have had a fundamental shift in how they view rentals and even a player as great as Machado isnt exempt from that when it comes to his trade value. They just ar the arent going to get a major franchise building block for a rental in 2018

My god is Cleveland’s bullpen horrible. Cody Allen gives up 6 runs in the top of the 9th after being up 4-0 the entire game. They’re in need of a major overhaul if they want to make noise in the postseason.

I feel bad for Trevor Bauer. 8 shutout innings only giving up 3 hits and striking out 12.

JUst last year your Dodgers gave up Calhoun for Darvish. He was a what, top 40 guy?

That’s Hiura, Kelbert, Florial territory & as of now those guys seem off limits if what we are hearing is true.

Left side of the inf superstars don’t come available like this, even if it’s a rental

Calhoun was a fringe top 100 guy. Was around 80 iirc

as are verdugo and Ruiz. They are going to get a C+/B- prospect tops. That's what Calhoun was, which isnt nothing but definitely not what the orioles are hoping for

Calhoun was a bat without a position. And realistically, he's what, 5'6? I still think he'll hit in the bigs, but he was never going to be a regular for the Dodgers.

Calhoun is at 45 right now. 60 hit 60 power. He’s a B prospect but certainly has a MLB profile

And he wasnt at the time of the trade. At the time of the trade, he was a B-, tops, prospect who had a dangerous bat and was a literal negative value defensive player. He has kept mashing in AAA and has grown. thats good for the rangers, but it doesnt change what it was at the time of that trade

He will be a really good DH for a while with Texas

Thinking Cleveland might be needing some bullpen help after giving up 7 runs with two outs in the ninth tonight to lose 7-4.

The Orioles want right-hander Corbin Burnes as the centerpiece in any Machado trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, and High A infielder Gavin Lux as the key prospect from the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to major-league sources.

Both teams are balking at including those players, sources say. The Brewers would prefer to build their package around Triple A outfielder Brett Phillips and Double A right-hander Luis Ortiz, according to one source. The Dodgers, unwilling to part with Lux or another Orioles target, High A right-hander Dustin May,

I guess neither team wants to win this year. If you’re the Brewers I’d hope it’s because you’re holding Burnes to trade for an Ace. The whole farm should be available minus Keston.

The Dodgers crawfishing over May is silly. There’s tons of talent in the system to lose May for a chance to win instead of rolling the dice on an A ball pitching prospect.

Orioles zig when everyone else zags. MLB said no to the Chris Carters and Brandon Moss of the world who’s only value was power. The Orioles gave Trumbo $38 Million.

But Dustin May is not a building block, neither is Corbin Burnes.

Kinda surprised we haven't seen a move of note yet, I thought after the Mariners trade we would see a few trickle in
