WNBA #1 Pick upset about gender pay gap between NBA and WNBA

That rookie scale contract isn't the biggest deal a WNBA player can sign — the maximum salary for anyone in the league for 2018 is $115,500. But any of those numbers pale in comparison to the deals that NBA players get, including Wilson's No. 1 pick counterpart, Deandre Ayton, who will get more than $6.8 million in his first season with the Phoenix Suns, and superstar LeBron James, who recently agreed to sign a four-year, $153.3 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The former contract, which was first reported Sunday, was obviously huge news in basketball circles, and Wilson used it as an opportunity to point out the massive wage gap between NBA and WNBA players.
"154M ........... must. be. nice. We over here looking for a (million) but Lord, let me get back in my lane," Wilson wrote on Twitter.

WNBA players get paid? I thought it was more of a recreational thing

not the owners fault the wnba players union caved when a snoball machine was thrown in the deal.

Don't most all the WNBA teams loose money? I kinda thought the league was a pity thing.

I don't understand how people don't comprehend these things...
I'm sure WNBA games are at about 20% capacity on the BEST nights, with tickets going for like $10 a pop. They're lucky they have a league to begin with, honestly. I can't watch that shite for 10 seconds

she has a point with how much fewer a percentage of the revenues that they get compared to the NBA. but even then, thats something they should blame themselves for when it comes to collective bargaining

LOL she needs to be thanking the NBA she even has a professional career at all.
Whole league is propped up by the NBA but they will pull the plug sooner or later.

It’s not a gender issue when the NBA generates 100x more revenue than the WNBA. Basic economics is obviously something Miss Wilson doesn’t understand.

They really don't generate much in the way of revenues, if any at all.
It is largely subsidized by the NBA.

well there's a certain hardcost involved running the league. IF the owners had to give away the top 50%, the league would likely be bankrupt... (even more bankrupt)

She admitted that she needed to get back in her lane.
No harm, no foul.

Facilities cost, advertising and such probably takes up a larger percentage of WNBAs revenues than it does the NBAs, so not sure if that argument is valid. Either way, they could go find other jobs if that one is not suitable for them.

Since the NBA is so woke, I cant wait to hear some of the more outspoken coaches and players' take on this

i wonder where the NBAs subsidization comes into this. i wonder if they could theoretically focus on increased wages. i doubt theyd ever do it but they already are the only reason the league exists

I don't understand people getting mad. Ending with that...she's saying she'd like 154 mil, but is instead hoping for 1 mil, but at the end of it, she doesn't control the disparity.
Hell, I'd like to get 154 mil too, but I also need to stay in my lane and realize it isn't coming.

I’m sure they will all be willing to take a pay cut to close the discrepancy in the wages

IF she's talented enough to earn a roster spot in the NBA, i'm sure they would allow it. Since she's likely not... there's no argument.

So it's the NBA's problem that no one wants to watch Women's basketball??
Posted on 7/9/18 at 10:29 am to Fun Bunch
Easiest solution is to eliminate all women’s sports and let the compete with men. You know because women are equal in every single way.
