Went Saturday. Definitely a strong hipster presence, but we knew that was coming.

Is this a negative or something?

It is for some people. My future MIL is insufferable on the subject

Have a 5:30 reservation. I've seen some intriguing photos on Yelp posted from the past couple of days, so I'm looking forward to it.

OK, so I just got back from my dinner-date at Soji. Overall, I was impressed. Not blown away like some people appear(ed) to be, but it was solid. Here's what we had...

Thai Boat Noodles (5/5) -- great broth, noodles cooked perfectly, tasty meatballs.

Tuna & Crab Stack (3/5) -- pretty basic. Chef Andre told me that he just hired a new executive sushi chef yesterday, who will be taking over all sushi duties -- spoke very highly of him and said everything will be done "perfectly"

Crabstick okonomiyaki (1/5) -- this was the only dish I didn't care for. Mushy, and without much flavor. The Sriracha they drizzled on top overpowered everything. Wouldn't recommend it.

Pork banh mi (4/5) -- very good version... the duck liver pate was great.

Sticky wings (3/5) -- Nice and crispy. My date liked the sauce more than I did.

Drunken noodles (5/5) -- succulent steak and great char flavor, with a perfectly cooked duck egg on top. Really, really good. I'd definitely order this again.

Looking forward to returning and trying some other items.

Very nice pictures. I apologize for not taking any; I had quite the fricking day on Thursday, so when I stumbled in 15 minutes late to meet my party, I wasn’t really in a picture taking mood

Different strokes for different folks. That broth knocked me off my feet

ETA2: Just edited my last post. Completely forgot that we ordered the dumplings

Yep, I will say the meatballs were very tasty.

Glad to see the dumpling comment. I was trying not to appear as the greek goddess Pussaliath.

Yeah, the spice was unpleasant. I got about a second of flavor before the spice snapped in and took over. It was so strong that my lips burned for a few minutes after that course.

Heading here later today. Good to know on the super spicy stuff. I don't do spicy food all that well, so will skip the dumplings.

Looking like drunken noodles and butter chicken will be definites.

Definitely going to get the pork belly dice next time - I heard multiple other tables raving about it

The crisping they do with the layer of skin makes the dish. Otherwise, while it it would have a good flavor, it would be texturally bland. Very well thought out.

My wife and I went last night, great first impression. I started with the basil cocktail, can’t remember the name. I really like herbal drinks so it was right up my alley. I think I’ll get the shogun assassin next time.

We ordered crudo, bahn mi, and drunken noodles.

I thought the crudo was pretty underwhelming, not bad, but nothing special. The fish was sliced thinner than deli meat, maybe that had something to do with it.

The bahn mi was awesome, and I will echo the other poster, the pâté really kicked it up a notch. The bread was perfect as well. I hope more people try it, because i can see how it would get passed over with all of the other great choices on the menu.

The drunken noodles were outstanding, I could eat them every day. The steak had great char and still tender. So much depth in the sauce. Portion was huge also, they split it for us and both plates were full.

My only concerns are logistics. Parking lot was full and the restaurant still had quite a few tables open. Also the back room by the noodle bar is a really tight squeeze. Other than that it was fantastic, they did a beautiful job with the design of the building.

That's disappointing. We were served six slices that were easily a quarter of an inch thick. I could see my perspective changing substantially if I were served carpaccio-esque slices.

Actually just heated my leftovers for lunch. Still delicious, but damn, that spice kicked through even more after sitting for a few days. I'm not actually calling for them to change the formulation, as I know there are hordes of people who prefer their food spicier than I do, but personally, I could go for less chili oil. Otherwise, it's a killer dish.

I’m definitely one of them. I didn’t find it spicy at all

My only problem with the banh mi was the price. I understand why they charge $9 at a place like that, but still it messes with my mind that I’m paying that much when I could get one at Dangs or similar for under $4. I guess the quality of the ingredients justifies it.

In my defense, it's quite possible that they haven't exactly dialed in quality control in the kitchen yet and I got a bit too much chili oil in mine. Or I'm being a little bitch. It really could go either way

The wife and I went Wednesday. I was pretty impressed.

The crab and tuna stack was good, nothing to blow you away but solid.

The dumplings were really good.

The wings were very good, nice and crispy and the sauce was awesome.

We also shared the pork katsudon. It was good, the sauce kind of overpowered the pork. But the crab fat fried rice that comes with the dish is some next level stuff, I've never been blown away by rice until eating this.

All in a all the place seemed like it's going to be a hit. The only issues I could see was it took a little while to get cocktails and parking is going to be a nightmare.

Everything was great.

From the raw bar, got a raw beef tataki dish that was really delicious. I'm a sucker for raw beef - moreso than fish. This was very impressive.

Also got the wings and the pork belly dice. Both were awesome. I could eat those wings as a meal.

Two of us got drunken noodles. Two of us got butter chicken. I didn't think the drunken noodles were too spicy (although I only took a few bites), and I really loved the butter chicken. Healthy portion of food too. Just had it for lunch again.

Also tried the shishito peppers side. I'm not a shishito pepper person, so can't speak to it much.. but it tasted like shishito peppers

Drinks - I had the Crane Kick and the Basil Gardens. Both great. Tried the margarita, and loved the spicy kick it had.

Don't really frequent Mid City much, but with this and Rocco and Elsie's all so close.. I could see myself becoming more regular there.

They have a very unique cocktail list and put a lot of emphasis on it, so I imagine almost every table is ordering them.
