Two places of max wake. Lots of muddy water.

Sure, in a small width waterway. But on a river with boats skiing and stuff, you cannot expect to have all boats idle. Sonic that's the case, it's best maintaining a safe speed which keeps wake smaller

Yeah, they didn’t have enough room.

I always keep my head in a swivel in the yak. I try to make myself as visible as possible in areas where boats can run.

My camp is on a canal that's 35-40 yards wide, it's one of two camps on the canal. It takes 1 minute to slow down. Agree to disagree.

If it's in the back of a canal where someone rarely goes then I'll idle. But if you are the guy within 100 yards of the opening of a popular canal that everyone drives through to go somewhere then heck no. Its your job to make sure your shite can take a beating, even if I slow down you know most people won't. Not to mention your location is a pita for everyone to slow down.

Most of the time i signal to other boats to keep going, but if I’m in a skinny canal, i think they should slow down.

What about people who put up homemade no wake zone signs by their camps? How do y'all feel about them?

They probably slow enough people down to offset the ones that ignore it. More power to the owners if it makes them happy. I've always wondered if they had any liability if someone came off step unexpectedly and got hit by a boat that ignored the sign. I bet most of them don't think about that shite.

Most people probably agree that getting around someone safely is more important than how someone feels. If I have to get in close to a boat or dock then I'm doing it at no wake speed but if I can stay in the middle of the canal then its safer for everyone for me be on plane and not dead slow in the middle of the channel.

Everyone here is thinking it so don't act like you're not. If there is a hot chick in a bikini that 40 yard buffer just quadrupled. Inside a 1/4 mile you pull the stick into neutral.

Depends on how wide the canal / bayou is and how close I have to get to them. Glitter boat here, so me running flat out is less wake by far than me slowing down in some situations. Back in the canals, I always drop off plane way before them and take back off well after passing.

I did have one guy in the main bayou yell at us for flying by, well away from him. On the trip back we slowed down (to his liking since he gave us a thumbs up when we got to a certain speed). He had way more wake to deal with the second time.

I feel like sometimes, its not even about the wake, but more about respect. They might not understand how wake works, and feel like you are just disrespecting them on the water by not slowing down to pass them. Or maybe fast boats just make them nervous, like myself. I never feel comfortable going fast in a boat unless im driving, but odds are, if im driving, im not going too fast. But it typically doesnt piss me off when someone passes by me on plane. It has a couple times, but they were much closer than 30 yards.

If you are passing someone fishing on a main channel, keep going. If on a small canal or cut, slow down.

Sounds like you should move your camp

Different situation here on the Tennessee River than you guys in LA but similar as well. With ledge fishing being so popular here on Pickwick it can be like an obstacle course in the main channel here.

I went last Monday and there was a boat about every 50-100 yards since there was a big high school tourney going on. 380 boats plus locals made it pretty crowded. I ran about 40-45 and gave as wide a berth as possible when passing boats fishing and that's generally what everyone here does. If I am runing WFO I will also slow down to 50 or so when passing anyone while trying to give no less than 50 yards if possible but preferably 100 if possible.

Now if I go in a small creek or slough I idle in and out if someone is there. But on the main river I stay on plane. There are places you can't run unless you are in the main channel due to shallow water, rocks, etc. so you can't always give as wide a berth as you want if they are sitting in the main river channel.
