Barnes is owed $25mil.

I would think we need to get a third team involved to make that one happen.

Hill, Matthews, Ajinca, Diallo, 2 1sts to Hawks

Bazemore and Moore to Mavericks

Barea and Barnes to Pelicans

Not even sure if that works

I'm not going to lie, the thought of finally having a legit SF would make me give up a lot.

The upside of Boogie walking is that now the Pels can make uneven trades the other way. They can take on more than they give up. Hill and Ajinca for Barnes would be legal.

I’d rather make a trade for someone like Carroll

Hill + Ajinca + a pick. Get Carroll, who would be an expiring. Then if Randle ends up really good you have the money to bring him back

Obv a couple picks would need to be tossed in there maybe 2019 1st and swap rights in 2020?

While it’s no guarantee I would imagine Barnes would decline his player option and hit free agency in 2019. Therefore, he would essentially be an expiring.

Legal, sure. But what's Dallas's motivation for taking only that much back? Even with a first that seems like an awfully low price to pay for Barnes.

That’s why I think third team from an asset/talent standpoint.

Seems like a trade for Feb when Dallas realizes that they are out of it.

Is that what we are offering (plus a 1st of course)? If so, sign me up.

The more I have had time to think about it, the more I really wonder if Randle is going to have offers of more than 10 mil next year. Even if he plays well. Some teams will have money. Mostly bad teams. And we have seen over and over again that big men are devalued on the market. Especially ones who aren't shooters.

I think there is at least a 50/50 shot that the 10 mil the Pels can offer without cap room next year will be good enough to keep Randle

I think they'd even be willing to include Diallo if push came to shove. Especially when it is so easy to get a big for the minimum in Free agency

His market was fairly dry this year and with the amount of talent in the pool next year he may want to stay for 120% raise.

I am all for Barnes. I have always liked him as a fit here but I just don’t think we have the capital now to get him.

I think I would still do it. However, Dallas must want a lot more if you are saying they are being delusional.

The only thing i can think of is that they want cap space next season and Barnes has indicated he plans on opting in knowing the 2019 free agency class.

Hill could be dumped by Dallas as an expiring next offseason or stretched to clear space to make a run at Butler or equivalent.

I'd still probably do that. I mean we we're likely looking at having to use picks to dump Hill and Ajinca anyway. If you can get Barnes back on top of it that seems like a win. I like Cheick but wouldn't say no over him.

I wanted us to sign Barnes, years ago as a free agent; we signed Moore and Solo instead. He would be a good fit; I think Butler would fit better. If we want Butler, we need to trade for him (like OKC did PG). Another player who might be available is Lillard, he would be a perfect fit.
