It appears that it is no longer just posturing here. China is making moves to decrease our trade leverage on them.

China seems to be positioning itself to deal with the fallout of a bruising trade war with the US.
On Thursday, China’s commerce ministry announced that the country had agreed to lower or cancel existing tariffs, or border taxes, on thousands of goods from India, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Laos starting July 1.
Trade experts say that the move is plain evidence that China is looking for alternative sources for goods that it imports from the US. China is currently planning on imposing sweeping tariffs on numerous goods from the US, retaliating against Trump’s tariffs on Chinese goods that are scheduled to begin next week.

the same thing still remains true. Their market needs our consumers more than we need their products.

So why wasn't China doing this to start with if it is such a good deal for them?

OMG...where will we get all of our cheap plastic trinkets from?
Or I guess they will just increase 50%, from $0.10 to $0.15??
My bad on the math, LOL

So what? The sheer numbers makes this a no win for them. They import almost nothing from us, and we are their largest customer. They don't need to worry about replacing what they buy from us, they need to worry about selling their crap to someone else

Better yet they could just disappear from the shelves on which they're sold from.

Because like with an actual physical war, there are negative consequences to both sides.
Obviously China would prefer to continue their current trade relationship with us, but it takes 2 to tango.

Lol okay. Bring it on. Trade wars are good for the US because we always win.

There are many countries from which the U.S. can get cheap crap. There isn't a market equal to the U.S. for China to sell their crap
