Is it time to drop the charade?

Would the country be better off if both sides of the aisle dropped all pretense that there is an objective standard for honor and what is right in politics?
For Dems and Pubs alike the whole process is about sticking it to the other side so that your respective base can gloat and feel superior in the moment.
The sideshow over judicial nominations is illustrative of this. With Merrick Garland, the dems were trying to subvert the political system by attempting to force the nomination through before the election. Now the pubs are almost gleeful in their desire to do the same....and the dems are crying foul over what they themselves tried.
It seems to be that the level of hypocrisy is valued as a symbol of how much power you hold. I am going to do the same thing to you that you did to me... but I am going to win, so that makes it okay.
I am to the point I think we may need to nuke the whole thing and start over.

You sound like a moderate, capitulate to the left when the media hates on you. Moderates stand for nothing, get out of the way or the train will run you over.

It's a midterm election. Obama appointed Kagan during a midterm election year.

I wasn’t aware there was any pretense.

Part of that is human nature and has always existed and will always exist. Yes, both sides do it.

Well they killed Scalia in order to get another judge in there before Obama's term was up. So, in this case, the Republican's "hypocrisy" is warranted.

Newsflash: we did this in November of 2016 and it's working.

Dems are the ones that changed the rules to lower requirements just so they could do it themselves. It is time to stop pretending they will take the high road and let them die by their own sword.

Obama / Kagan will not be covered. Need to run an ad like the recent Republican ad which is just recordings and dates of Dems. Run them in the ground with the constant sound of their own voices.

Name the great moderates in U.S. history...., none.
Moderates have ZERO backbone and cave in to emotions, they stand for nothing but the desire to be liked by their enemies.

Yes it is.. it is about finding the best way to undermine the guy doing the nominating.
Not a single pub who blocked Garland did so because they thought Trump would win. They were hoping to have more of their own in Congress after the election to knock out Obama or Hillary's choice. Same thing here. Dems hope they will have enough in January to block.

Let's see
-We have the largest economy in the world by a pretty healthy margin
-Extremely high standard of living
-One of the few remaining nations that has almost unlimited freedom of religion, speech, right to bear arms.
-University system that is the envy of other first world nations
-The most innovative economy the world has ever seen
-The most powerful and capable military in the world
-People are risking their lives to come here from other countries
Yeah frick it let's just blow the whole thing up!

No truer thing has been said on this forum.
Politics has become team sports...people don't vote their conscience...they vote for their team...no matter what the guy stands for.
