The electrical thread got me thinking, how handy is the average OT'er?

I am just amazed how so many people (esp Millennials) have zero common sense when it comes to simple jobs around the house. Now I know electrical work can be very dangerous, I was an electrician for 10 years, but even electrical work is very simple if you simply turn off the breaker.
I know people that need to hire someone for every job that needs to be done.
I guess I get it from my father that seemed to be able to fix anything around the house, cars, garage, etc. He had me out there every Saturday morning, working on cars (he was a shade tree mechanic when not working at the plant), and had me help him on anything that came up around the house.
Now, I do all the work on my truck including brakes, shocks, tune ups, etc. The only thing I don't do to my truck is change the oil because with a coupon, it only cost about $10 more than if I did it myself.
The only handyman I've had at my house was a HVAC man because I just don't have the equipment to do it, and my AC man is a life long family friend, so he doesn't charge me.

How handy are you with simple jobs around the house?

It's small enough that your mom doesn't mind it in her arse.

I'm about a 5/10. Minor auto repairs - brakes, oil, alternator etc. Some electrical, fences, appliances. I cuss a lot when I do it but usually figure it out

The biggest DIY project I did was helped put in some ceramic tile. Myself and another guy completely tiled about 1400 sq feet in my gf's house.

Never again

Hell, even jobs I've never done before can easily be done today simply with YouTube.

Last year, the bottom gasket on my washer started leaking. I watched a couple videos and changed it myself for $12 (the cost of the gasket). It was pretty simple.

Oh yes, I get pissed and cuss like a sailor on shore leave, but it makes me even more determined to do it myself. I refuse to let it get the best of me.

On my car, I can do just about everything, but I don't do brakes. Everything else, no problem. Not because I don't know how, but because the implications of making a mistake could be really bad. I view electric work in the house the same way. I could do it, but still would rather pay a pro for the peace of mind.

I can paint, repair outdoor landscape lighting, fix a pool pump. I don’t really care for carpenter work

Our ac went out on Sunday and I figured out the drip pan was full. My wife was like "how'd you know that?"
