I'm more familiar with the Aztec history, but the Spanish did the same to them. They were surrounded by the Tlaxacans and were about to be killed until the Tlaxacans figured out they were enemies of the Aztecs too. Hence why the Tlaxacans have helped them.

The reason South of the Border nations are failed states, are the same reason third world nations everywhere have failed:
1) Exploitation of natural resources in those lands by corporatists from developed nations.
2) Racial/ class/ religious prejudice & discrimination within these countries.

It’s easy to make excuses and blame others. But why have these countries lagged while others have developed? Why have other countries sorted out their internal issues?
