Who was president then?

I don’t remember

I remember it well. And while I was no fan of Clinton, I said send him on back!

Don’t forget all of the children killed by federal agents when Janet Reno ordered the siege on the Branch Davidians.

The “wassssup” beer commercial meme featuring Elian was the best.

I was only marginally following the story but wasn’t that, in simplest terms, returning a boy to his father? Obviously a mess and that enduring photo a disaster but... no?

You either were not born or too young to remember if you are saying this. This makes you a liar. You have now been exposed as a liar and should ban yourself. Goodbye.

I think the deke’s offered him a place to stay via their banner and promptly got in trouble with LSU.

Very different situation. Mother died making the crossing and took him from his dad without his permission or knowledge. His Dad obviously wanted him back.

Analogy fail

Liberals loved Castro.

The father was Cuban and liberals wanted to return the kid back to his communist paradise.

Seriously though...

If it had been Mexico or any other place kid is not going back.

But socialist Castro Cuba...father's wishes must be adhered to.

Reasonable people thought Elian should be allowed to be with his father.

Sooooo
....you're pointing out that the solution was to send the kid back to his home country instead of allowing the parent to come to this country.
Good plan.

González sits quietly in his family home in Cardenas as his father, Juan Miguel, talks a mile minute. There are family pictures on the wall near images of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro.

Gonzalez, 23, remains one of the most identifiable figures on the island and one of his generation's most outspoken supporters of the Cuban Revolution.

Elián González says he still thinks about his experience in the United States but doesn't believe his life there would have been better had he stayed.
"I think I would have become the poster boy for that group of Cubans in Miami that tries to destroy the revolution, that try to make Cuba look bad," he said.

"I would have been used in that way. Maybe I would have become an actor on TV or maybe I would have more money than I have here with more comforts, but I wouldn't have my family. I wouldn't have the tranquility I have in Cuba. "

Frankly his "relatives" should have been prosecuted for ignoring a court order. They weren't his legal guardians and basically kidnapped the kid from his Dad.

He shows the value of brainwashing people when they're young.

I was young but I remember the admistration’s talking point on that basically boiled down to “the law is the law”. Ironic huh.
