Should we really be spending 2/3 of federal spending on the old and sick?

Should we really be spending so much every year on preserving life instead of advancing it? Why do the poor, sick, and old get such a large chunk of the pie?

They won't survive the next round of tax cuts. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Sounds very much like you want the government to create pannels tondetermine who gives to prolong their life and whose is not worth saving. I think many people got mocked for pointing out these exist in socialized medicine

Oh wow...how about we just kill em all when they reach 70.

People should be expected to have a livable wage saved up by the time they're at retirement age.
Not my responsibility to pay for Gertrude's meals now that she's 80 and can't afford it, when 50 years ago she decided to live a free bird life of drugs and sex.
Having said that, I don't mind a small portion of taxes going to help older people that fall into extraordinary situations.

Maybe you should get your facts straight:
quote:
During FY2016, the federal government spent $3.27 trillion on a budget or cash basis, up $18 billion or 1% vs. FY2015 spending of $3.25 trillion. Major categories of FY 2016 spending included:
Healthcare such as Medicare and Medicaid ($1,060B or 28% of spending),
Social Security ($910B or 24%),
Non-defense discretionary spending used to run federal Departments and Agencies ($600B or 16%),
Defense Department ($585B or 15%),
Interest ($240B or 6%).[1]
You suck at math.

Id love for government to not fund the old and sick. Im living out my life right now assuming I wont have the government paying for me when im old. Everyone should be doing that.

I believe we as a society should come together to have available basic health care for everyone. I’m not saying it has to be a government mandate or provided by the government but that should be a value we collectively embrace. That being said, the operative word is “basic”. Unfortunately everyone can’t be entitled to cutting edge treatment and life-prolonging/enhancing operations just “because”. Finding that line where basic ends and expanded begins however is the tricky part.

quote:They didn't design the system but sure as hell spent their entire working life putting money into it. The government said if you do this, then we (the government) will do this. It's kind of like a contract. Understand now?

It doesn’t matter what the percentage is. This is nothing more than the government taking money in the name of doing something right and instead misusing the money. You will never ever get the amount of money you put into the system when you one day need it. It is nothing more than a ponzi scheme. Furthermore, it’s a system that is doomed to fail under its own weight. Why support something that can’t support those whom it was designed to help, let alone itself.

Nah we should spend the money on fighter planes we’ll never use and reducing taxes on the super rich so they can buy a 5th yacht.

It’s a contract in the same way that a timeshare contract is. Flawed in every single conceivable way.

Glad we’re not being hyperbolic in this thread

Yeah, give it to the poor because they always make sound financial decisions. Just ask the spinning rims vendor who has several rent-to-own options or the local Newport Cigarettes and Pepsi distributor and they can tell you.

Damn you are dramatic dude......I didn't say that, I asked if we should be spending 2/3 of our spending on the poor, sick, and weak....
