Because Trump. Remember, God sent Trump as a last ditch effort to save the country, and maybe the world.

Indeed, they are taxes on the american people.

But so are:

minimum wage laws

regulations

occupational licenses

Where is your outrage at that?

So then what are “communist subsidized industries undercutting American manufacturing with the intent of driving them out of business for the ultimate purpose of controlling 100% of global market share”, called?

Health care costs are premiums. My payment goes to Blue Cross. Tariffs are taxes which go to the federal government.

The individual mandate makes it a tax in the case of a penalty

You have a point in your OP that is worth discussing. Don't fight this losing battle

People do not pay the tariff tax.

they pay higher prices in the form of domestically produced goods.

The point of a tariff is not to collect money, but to protect specific industries.

Tariffs are not designed to be a funding source. They are designed to get foreign competitors out.

eta: I AM AGAINST ALL TARIFFS AND THINK PEOPLE ULTIMATELY COVER THE COST OF TAX

Consumers are a special interest group just like producers.

Even if that was their intent you'd be stupid to think they could come anywhere close to achieving such a goal

I agree. Was responding to starsandstripes which said that the ACA was a tax. That’s his diversion. Probably should have ignored him, but it was so ignorant I felt compelled to answer.

Some are. It didn't work out like that when Kobe tariffs essentially created really good A5 Wagyu. But no one ever really called those policies tariff even though those policies acted exactly as a tariff would.

But I'm not having this argument again. Reminds me of arguing about pass through entity tax cuts versus taxes on a post card. In both cases I was, and still am correct. A lot of wasted effort on "principled conservatives" that in action have never lived a conservative moment in their lives.

And when did it become the stance of conservatives to be a bunch of protectionist pussies again? I'm forgetting.
